Bird flu update.

Sticking this over here so it can be ignored. Basically bird flu is doing what flu does. One thing I learned, I have never been a proponent of culling. Best approach is to work with nature and evolution. Quarantine the chicken farm and let the flu run through then breed the survivors. You end up with flu resistant chickens. Well, they tried that on a farm. Something like 1% or less survived well enough to breed. It's that devastating.

There are several clades of H5N1. One is in wild birds and domestic poultry. Another is in cows and is mildish. A third, very severe, is in wild birds and has infected 2 humans. One died.

Well, there is a new clade found in cattle that is very severe for the cattle. Another development is cat to human transmission has been documented. The cat died. Human survived.

Oh, one more thing. CDC has quietly directed hospitals to subtype all flu admissions within 24 hours.

Of course, links.

Cat transmission? Someone slipped up at the CDC and did their job.

Severe clade found now in cattle. Known to be deadly to humans.

The new D1.1 clade of H5N1, that severely sickened a teenager in BC and killed some old person in Louisiana.....mentioned it was recently detected by the USDA in milk samples from Nevada dairy cows (first time that version has been found in cattle)......well.....

A cattle worker in the same area of Nevada has gotten H5N1, and they're testing to see if it is D1.1. If so, that's bad. Pray it isn't that.

Going back to 1997 anyway. ILI ER visits are 7.8% - averaged nationwide.

https://www.cdc.gov/fluview/surveillance/2025-week-05.html#:~:text=Outpatient%20respiratory%20illness%20visits&text=It%20is%20important%20to%20evaluate,to%20ILI%20varies%20by%20location.

And so far, this isn't the bird flu, or even some rare or novel variant causing this.
