Don't mess with Texas

Texas is firing their Athletic Director today. It will cost them $6 million to get rid of Patterson, and it will probably be worth it. Bob Stoops couldn't have done more to alienate the fanbase and the big donors than Patterson did.
This means that the new AD will not be the person who hired Charlie Strong. Charlie is already on thin ice himself with much of the fanbase, and a lot of them are already bringing up the name of Chad Morris.

Hoping Morris and SMU pull the upset against TCU this weekend, he does that he'll get national attention for sure.

I agree that Strong will get at least one more year after this. I think next year he's going to need to show improvement.

He needs to start producing results in recruiting, also. Texas is presently ranked 54th in Rivals team recruiting rankings.

True, but the next coach might not find the sledding so

easy either. The Texas football climate has really changed in the last ~5 years. A&M is kind of the hip place to go now, and the rise of Baylor and TCU certainly won't help either. And of course LSU and OU have always gone into Texas for recruits. Texas used to get the pick of the litter, but that's not the case right now and they are going to need to get multiple things turned around before it becomes that way again.

Do you think they go after a HC with so little experience? I guess you could compare it to Auburn though w/Gus. I think Chad will be a good HC but Texas is a whole different animal. They've shown that they will endure some scrutiny but I don't know how much anymore. They stuck with Mack Brown until the wheels came completely off but Strong is skating on paper thin ice. I thought Charlie would be a good fit down there with his hard nosed defensive background and success at a failure of an institution like Sakerlina. It's amazing how much the dynamics of college football have changed. The state as a whole is being raided by Oklahoma, LSU, A&M, and now has some of the longtime 3rd or rth tier programs picking up so.e of the good talent in the state, like Baylor. How much longer will it be before a rejuvinated SMU starts getting some of these kids, too. One thing is for sure though, I wouldn't want to be the one with the Longhorns polo and headset on. Whoever it ends up being whether Charlie Strong survives or not, they have my respect if they can live through it and put a winner on the field.

If Chad does a great job at SMU, he will be a person they would strongly consider, in my opinion.

and what it was going to take to turn things around given the move of A & M to the SEC and Baylor's success under Broyles. It's just a matter of time before Strong gets things rolling.

no idea honestly why any recruit in Texas would chose

A&M or Baylor over Texas.
Austin is one of the best and coolest cities in America, especially for young people and then you have Waco and College Station, two absolute dumps.

It's all speculation at this point but if Texas came calling on Chad Morris I wonder if Chad (being an A&M grad) would really go to Texas. I'm sure there would be several $million reasons for Chad to go but that would be akin to having a Clemson grad as the head coach at USuC - makes me want to puke just thinking about it.

Ridding themselves of Charlie Strong would be a dumb, dumb move, but I wondered if that experiment was going to take.
Strong is a culture-changer, a rebuilder. The job he did with Louisville was sensational and it wasn't an accident. Truthfully I'd hate it if he wound up at South Carolina because he's exactly the sort of guy they need there...steady, relentless, methodical, no-nonsense, a tough-love, no-BS guy who is a very good judge of underrated talent who doesn't need a bunch of 4-and-5-star guys to build a solid program. His roster produced 10 picks for Louisville last year...again, not an accident - and he did it with a bunch of 2-and-3-star-rated guys. I always wondered if he was a good fit for Texas because of the culture there - you have to be folksy or at least a Southern Gentleman, a great public speaker, and look good on TV, since the Longhorn Network is going to be following you around (contractually!) every day. You've also gotta be really, really smooth at schmoozing a very entrenched, very proud bunch of big-money donors, boosters, and alums, as well as a difficult bunch of high school coaches that earn $100K+ a year, have their own statues outside their stadiums, and have monster programs on the scale of Byrnes HS in Duncan that have more resources than some FCS colleges. When Strong went kicking kids off the Texas roster left and right, he was creating...political difficulties. A lot of those kids were town heroes.
The Chad would probably be a lot better at that than many - he definitely knows the culture - but you also wonder if the Texas faithful would accept an A&M guy. Those divisions go deep.
Texas is the one program in America that can claim to have more resources than Alabama. It's also a tricky, tricky job.
My fear isn't that they'll come after Chad Morris. My fear is that they'll come after Dabo Swinney...since he checks a lot of the boxes required to manage that beast. And Texas is a program that could throw $10 million away on a coach they really wanted, if they so desired.
My hope is they get tunnel vision on a Texas guy, or that Strong turns it around. I don't want a monster like Texas shopping again with the money they've got, and I'd rather not have Strong at South Carolina either.
