I posted last night that it appears OL target Hardy Watts is headed elsewhere, and I posted last week that I believe David Sanders is also headed somewhere other than Clemson. That has been confirmed to me.

I mean, he’s coached one game at this point and our line was terrible last year. Historically we’re not very good at the position either, give Luke a year to show some on the field results and then we can expect to see top talent come our way.

In fairness, He's coached 20 years; he's got plenty of results and carries the best pedigree out there for O Line coaches.
True there is maybe some sort of on the field results that need to be established here at Clemson.
But on the other hand, we know how bad our O Line has been and how badly we are in need of talent. Don't these kids know they could come in and get playing time very early.

David, this sounds VERY similar to recruiting process/failure to close from recent years. Tigers get some of the better OL prospects in the recruiting pipeline, but struggle to close the deal. We continue to do well on the defensive side of the ball, inconsistent, at best, on the offensive side. What needs to change?

100% Luke has a track record but not one at Clemson. He will have to show he can develop and put some guys in the league here. Feel like 26 will be the class the big time OL start to come in, after they see Luke actually coach up our guys. Go Tigers!!!!

This is why I don’t understand everyone still clinging on like it’s the old days. When you can’t land a kid that grew up a fan with the facilities and everything we have it’s only going to get worse. Brought in an elite coach and will still lose out because we don’t have the NIL to compete. Also this is exactly the reason we should go hard in the portal but hey it’s fine.

It will take Clemson at least 2-3 seasons to get some traction with OL recruiting. Luke is a great coach who should’ve been hired 2 years ago, instead we got Austin. We’ve never put a priority on the Oline and it’s coming back to bite us. Clemson now has to go up against the schools known for putting players in the NFL and their deep pockets. It’s an uphill battle.
And Dabo ain’t touching the portal.

When you’re recruiting against Penn State, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Kentucky, etc. vs batting for recruits with Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, etc. but no, everything is totally fine. There won’t be any drop off…

Look at the room count. Too low.
This isn’t about Matt Luke. It’s about choosing where to spend.

NIL is a factor for sure but think biggest thing hurting us is we haven't been churning out NFL-caliber guys at a great rate on OL. The position has been considered 1 of our weakest positions even with all the success we've had under Dabo.
If Luke can get our 2024 group in the trenches to perform at a better level this season & we parlay that into a return atop ACC & CFP appearance, that should hopefully start opening things up in recruiting & maybe even the portal (since it's been stated that OL has been where the staff has been most active trying to land ppl).

Every recruit is its own story and circumstances. For months it’s been reported the Sanders family brought in an NIL rep. That basically was the signal he was not coming to Clemson. Dabo doesn’t operate that way with HS recruits. I would be surprised if the separation became mutual after the official visit weekend.

Clemson that were there before his arrival, remain. Those being, membership in the ACC, and a smaller NIL warchest than a lot of the other well known football programs. And, although not specifically stated, any kid who shows up with his hand out right off the bat seeking money, ahead of anything else, will be told to move on down the road.
I suspect there may be potential recruits moving forward who are right now in a "Show me" mode when it come to Coach Luke at Clemson. Can he take what he has and show a substantial improvement in the quality of offensive line play on the field? Past results say he can, and the tenor of posts on these boards indicate maybe even an unrealistic amount of improvement is expected. Here's to unrealistic expectations becoming reality!

Nailed it. We are not going to shell out a bunch of money to guys who we don't know whether they can play yet. If they prove they can, money will be there. It is going to take a while, but there are many great three star players in the NFL and it takes a good eye to be able to find them. I'm not suggesting that starts don't matter, but we have to find guys we can work with and develop until the time five star guys are itching to come here.

Clemson needs to decide if they want to play the game FULLY.
No one should kid themselves.....Clemson ALREADY plays the game but has self-imposed contingencies that other schools don't burden themselves with.
Soon, a decision will have to be made if losing 4 ± games a year in the ACC is good enough.
Clemson is hoping rules change. But that could be several years away. We are already behind.....
