Coots strength of schedule

Nov 20, 2013, 11:49 AM

Apart from Missouri, have the coots beaten a team ranked in the top 25 ? If Missouri wouldn't have crapped the bed and given them the game they wouldn't have a single win over a ranked team. They always whine about how much stronger their schedule is, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Central Florida was unranked at the time they played them per espn.

$CU's argument is propagated on the myth....

Nov 20, 2013, 11:59 AM

that playing in the $EC automatically translates into a difficult schedule and that simply isn't the case.

There is no denying that their success this year is based, at least in part, on very favorable scheduling.

The $EC East is terrible this year particularly since UGa sustained so many injuries and the Capons did not have to play any of the better teams from the West (i.e. Alabama, Auburn, Texas A & M.

The one ranked team fro mthe east they did play and defeat played without its starting QB and its best WR.

I have their schedule rated 32nd in the country.

Nov 20, 2013, 12:04 PM

Which is pretty good.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My rankings of their opponents:

Nov 20, 2013, 12:15 PM

#7 Missouri
#18 UCF
#25 Georgia
#47 Vanderbilt
#51 North Carolina
#57 Florida
#57 Mississippi St.
#64 Tennessee
#86 Arkansas
#101 Kentucky

With (currently) #9 Clemson still to come.

They had one of the easier SEC conference schedules.***

Actually, it was the easiest SEC schedule, according to

Playing 6 teams that aren't even bowl eligible, losing to one and nearly getting beat by a few others is pretty good? Please.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not great, but 32 out of 125 isn't bad.

Nov 20, 2013, 12:22 PM

Better than Bama, FSU, Clemson, Baylor, Ohio St., or Oregon, for example.

Re: Not great, but 32 out of 125 isn't bad.

Nov 20, 2013, 12:39 PM

You're insane if you think their schedule is harder than ours. Florida state would beat the hel out of Missouri and anyone on their schedule. Even Missouri was without their starting quarterback and had no gameplan for when Connor shaw came in in the 4th. Their schedule may have looked good on paper but it's definitely weaker than ours. However I would love for them and everyone else to think they play so much tougher opponents and playing us is going to be like any other game on their schedule, I love the being the underdog and I honestly hope they're ranked 9 or 10 before we play them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know what I "think" about it. Haven't thought much.

Nov 20, 2013, 12:44 PM

According to my ratings, SC's schedule is 32nd, and Clemson's is 45th.

That is based on opponents' record and point differential, and opponents' opponents' record and point differential.

Clemson's opponents are 38-34 in FBS games.
SC's opponents are 42-40.

Clemson's opponents' opponents are 345-319.
SC's opponents' opponents are 418-337.

Clemson's opponents' avg. point differential is 15.11.
SC's opponents' avg. point differential is 8.3.

Clemson's opponents' opponents point diff. is 64.78.
SC's opponents' opponents point diff. is 255.8.

Obviously SC's significantly better opponents' opponents are what makes their schedule stronger in my ratings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're making it much stronger.***

if we had played Fla and not FSU we would be undefeated and ranked even higher than sixth! I like those SEC schedules!

Nov 20, 2013, 12:31 PM [ in reply to Who cares? Beat them. Nothing else matters.*** ]

I just never realized how weak it was. 6/10 of the teams they've played aren't even bowl eligible and vandy just got its 6th win. That's pretty surprising but atleast they will be severely overrated when we beat that ### in Columbia. That makes our great year look that much better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unless they beat us again, which will make this point

Nov 20, 2013, 12:32 PM

completely worthless.

You lighten up. I'm happy.

The BCS computers all seem to like their schedule:

Nov 20, 2013, 12:33 PM

Here is their schedule rating according to each computer:

Sagarin - 21st
Massey - 7th
Anderson - 10th
Billingsley - 22nd
Colley - 18th
Wolfe - ?

I actually have it lower than any of them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You misspelled 'weakness.'***
