I know. Happens every frappin season. We seem snakebit when it comes to losing pitchers before the season even starts. Last year it was Samol. Which imo, I thought sure we'd have seen him Sunday starting.
Just odd because there was so much hype and buzz last year but seems like he's fallen off the cliff. D1 and the other pre-season predictions didn't even mention him... so I'm confused.
EB pre-season was talking about how healthy we were and now all of a sudden half our pitching staff is out. What gives?
Btw- is there a video that you speak of. Thanks.

Ghee whiz bo. I try hard to be nice to everyone on T-Net. It's why it states, post your opinion.
But I really don't know why you're on my case. I think an apology is warranted from you. I plainly and clearly posted I thought Samol would have started Sunday. Where's knaak in my post?
I await an apology.

His worthless ego. There's a time where being nice pays no dividend...and he's a prime example. His sole presence and worth is built around calling folks out in as condescending manner as possible. Being miserable would be a massive upgrade in his daily outlook. Yet paying members likely have a better chance at quarantine or 'Jamaica' than his ilk. And if that's my outcome...I have plenty of sunscreen!

Got to be some issues with S&C or pitching habits/usage with this happening every year.

Or pitchers in high school are being mismanaged? They could have arm injuries before they get to Clemson. Careful how we characterize the blame for Freshman pitchers. No t managing the stress on young arms is rampant nationwide. The old thinking of 10 year olds shouldn't be throwing curve balls still has merit!!!

I 1000% agree with your post. If a coach might can win a championship... let the kid pitch 3 days in a row. Some parents are clueless and some don't care. And now a lot of them are always playing travel ball that seems like all year.
Thanks for the post. Great observation.

the indictment of a high school coach is possible but probably not accurate. it is more likely the way they are doing things in PG or USSSA showcases. A kid is only going to likely throw two innings. you learn how to max your leverage and blow gas to pump your radar reading but you dont develop any durability. Just because you have figured out how to max out your leverage for 25 pitches doesnt mean you have any deep arm strength that comes from managing innings. then you get into a college program and you have a certain amount of pens scheduled preseason and leading into season but your arm is conditioned to throw showcase ball which is different than the demands of a college season.

Another reason why I dont like the new travel ball style and showcases. There should NOT be 8u travel ball, that is ridiculous. imo you shouldn't start travel ball until at least 16.

agree. we should do all we can to rejuvenate regular rec leagues until age 14. travel baseball at younger ages is not good for players, families, or your town. teaches kids (and their parents) to promote self not team and serves as an artificial filter of talent because most people are not going to spend the money or time... a huge contributing factor why foreign born players make up 30% of MLB and rising.

American legion baseball we have to abide by pitch count rules…same as high school. I tell my guys you work with me I’ll work with you. Many have limits during summer. I’ve had arms issues but not regularly

Almost every HS stste association has pitch limits that they have to adhere to or game will be forfeited.
Bottom line is the human body was not made to throw a baseball, much less at the velocity which they throw now.
And Dane was managed carefully his entire career. It sucks but it happens. And it’s actually better for him to get it over with his freshman year, come back stronger have a great soph and jr season then get drafted.

Both of my grandsons play and the oldest (almost 10) almost literally plays year round (shortstop and pitcher). The league he is in (Atlanta Suburb) monitors them very carefully during the season, particularly in games, but that does not account for practice and the zillion balls he throws with his dad, brother, and friends. No telling what kind of damage they can do before and during high school. I guess the bottom line is that it happens to all teams and sooner or later to just about every pitcher.
Anyone remember the number of pitches that Ray Tanner had his closer throw in the CWS in one game ...... something like 130 wasn't it.
