CM is playing poker

I seriously doubt NC State is ready to hire a coordinator with no D-1 HC experience. He's simply playing his hand and will probably get yet another pay raise out of this from Clemson. He seems happy at Clemson and didn't I hear that he wants his kids to graduate from high school before making a move? I'd think it would have to be a significant pay raise for him to jump ship. He also knows that Clemson will most likely be a pre-season top ten team with the returning talent next year assuming everyone comes back. NC State is not exactly a desirable HC job.

NCSU would not hire him? Some of you people just type the first thing that pops into your heads without thinking.
So, just to be clear...let me get this straight...
Clemson, a better program than NCSU, hired a WR coach with no coordinator or head coaching experience, but NCSU, a lesser program, would not hire a great coordinator as a head coach. Interesting theory.

it's different sitations. TB got fired mid season and DS was interim for almost half a season. The season is practically over for the year (except for a lower bowl game) so they have no games to "try-out" Morris to see if he could handle the jump to HC.

That's a valid point, but imo, I think they have plenty of

highlight film on his offense. It's clear who calls the plays here. And he's been a winner everywhere...don't see why he couldn't handle the HC responsibilities.
But yes, it would be a difficult decision for them...with that part, I agree, but you see this happen all the time. Muschamp was only a coordinator at Texas, and now he's head coach at Florida. Where was his tryout as a HC?

I just think it's a high risk on NC State and Chad Morris. I guess it is the same when Dabo hired Chad. He took a risk, but I feel NC State takes a huge (and expensive) risk by hiring him as HC. A couple years down the road, risk goes down. I guess it is good we don't have to make the decision that NCst has to make.

Good point. I guess I would argue that Clemson and Dabo were already very familiar with each other and TDP saw the leadership potential in Dabo as a HC. It was definitely a gamble.

Agree it was a gamble with DS, and aside from the USuC

issues, I have been very pleased. Hope he gets those fixed, and hope that if CM is lured away, that he's smarter than Gene Chizik and goes out and finds another CM!!!
BTW, another example is Florida who hired a coordinator away from Texas to be head coach. Muschamp had no HC experience.

I don't think Muschamp is a fair comparison to Chad. Chad has only been a coordinator for 3 seasons. Before that he was a High School Coach. He's only been at the college level for 3 years. Muschamp had been a coordinator for over 10 years at the college and pro-levels. And a position coach before that. He was even an assistant head coach for the Miami Dolphins and head coach in waiting at Texas.
Now don't get me wrong: I think Chad will be an excellent coach, but I think he needs a few more years at the College level under his belt. I think people need to see what his players can do, not just the loaded cupboard he inherited.
Now of course, you'll have to separate the Clemson-bias out of that.

I posted this last night and get flamed and basically called an idiot. It is not nearly the risk we took on Dabo, and by taking him from us they strengthen themselves and weaken us at the same time.
