Clemson, SC—Clemson will close its regular season schedule at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday, April 14-15 at the Birdwood Golf Club at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. Head Coach Jordan Byrd will have two seniors, two freshmen and a junior in his lineup.

The tournament is named in honor of Lewis Chitengwa, a two time University of Virginia All-American who tragically died from meningitis during a professional tournament in Canada at the age of 26 in 2001.

Twelve schools will play 36 holes on Monday, April 14th, and 18 on Tuesday, April 15th on the par 71 course that measure 7,116 yards.

This year’s Chitengwa will include 12 teams, six are from power four conference schools, including three from the ACC. The list of schools competing include Clemson, Virginia, Florida State, Arkansas, Northwestern, Maryland, Toledo, Texas State, Liberty, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida and Loyola (Maryland).

Clemson finished eighth of 13 schools last year. The only golfer returning to the Clemson lineup from last year’s event is senior Andrew Swanson, who shot a final round 69 a year ago.

Swanson, a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, is Clemson’s top golfer this year with a 71.52 stroke average. He has three top 10 finishes in eight events this yer, a second place at Steelwood, seventh at the Palmetto and eighth at The Goodwin. He leads the team in under-par rounds with 12 and rounds in the 60s with eight.

East Carolina transfer Lucas Augustsson will be the number-two player in the Clemson lineup. The junior led Clemson to victory at the Palmetto Intercollegiate earlier this spring with a third place finish. He has a 72.65 stroke average this year with five rounds in the 60s and eight rounds at par or better.

Kian Rose will be in the third position in the Clemson lineup. The red-shirt senior from South Africa has a 72.22 stroke average this year, second behind Swanson. He has nine under-par rounds to rank second in that category to Swanson. Rose is the only Clemson golfer to win a tournament this year, as he tied for medalist honors at Briar’s Creek in February. Rose is a veteran of 105 career rounds and has 34 career under-par rounds.

Freshmen Colin Salema and Rich Wills round out the Clemson lineup at the number-four and five positions this week, respectively. Wills has a 72.78 stroke average for 23 rounds this year with four rounds in the 60s and nine total rounds at par or better. Salema will be in the Clemson lineup for the first time since October as he has been out with an injury. He has a 73.40 stroke average for the year.

Thomas Higgins will play the tournament as an individual. He has a 74.29 stroke average for 17 rounds this year.
