Politico, 6,000 journalists,700 newsrooms, 3000 civic society groups across 30 odd countries.

Why?

I was thinking more along the lines of The Pink Palace in Corfu... again.***

Did you go out to those two little coral islands and go cliff diving...?

They told me it was close to 70 feet when I got back. Still got the chipped tooth from that swan dive.

By the way, it was ouzo from the night before up at the cafeteria that steeled

my nerve to dive from that height. The Canadian that was piloting the boat out to the islands was on his second run to pick people up.

He said and I quote, "I knew there was only one fool that could be diving from the top." Compacted a few vertebrae on that one.

Other than my buddy John who was from "200 miles NE of Perth" who stuck around to "drag your dumb axx out", he was the only one that saw it.

It's important to know what news is being disseminated

Doesn't make it legit, but that's why

Ummm, that's the opposite of "news".***

Ask Nancy Mace or whoever your Congressperson is?

Managing and controlling government appropriations is more important than transgender bathrooms or other DEI issues _ or even revisiting J6 investigations.

For the large part, culture war issues are insignificant __ and create a smokescreen around the highly significant budget and government financial problems.

Culture war issues are important though because they impact elections.

I don't know about the others, but the $1 million/year that the federal government was paying Politico was all for subscriptions to Politico Pro.

There's numerous questions about this.

Should taxpayers be paying for these subscriptions? If so - to what level of the bureaucracy should we be paying these subscriptions - every worker or just SES level leadership? How many different news sources should the taxpayers be expected to pay for the Bureaucracy (i.e. subscriptions to NY Times, Washington Post, Associated Press etc...)? At what point is this cost excessive??

Just as importantly - if the Government is providing, through subscriptions, a substantial amount of revenue to a particular media company - how willing will that media company's bosses be to publish stories that potentially put those subscriptions in jeopardy?

Kind of like how those Big Pharama ads on TV can taint a TV network's coverage of those industries. Sure - the reporter class may want to cover a negative story of a certain Big Pharma company but if that same Pharma Company is spending big bucks to pimp their pills on their TV network - you can be assured phone calls will be made and most TV network execs are going to kill the story.

Your sick little fantasy about a grand conspiracy between news and big pharma could be possible if there was only one pharmaceutical company. It doesn’t happen partly because the people are to a person more ethical than you can understand. The other reason it doesn’t happen is because competitors are always ready to react and don’t stand for covering up bad news about another.

It may have been for "subscriptions" but it was for closer to ten million than one million.

My mistake. It was $8 million last year from all federal government agencies combined.

It doesn't seem like that crazy of a thing for people in Washington to spend money on. If there was corruption involved, that's a problem, but there are plenty of much worse examples of wasteful government spending.

It's nowhere near as sketchy as letting the richest person in the country, someone whose businesses have received tens of billions in government contracts and subsidies, decide what the government should and shouldn't be spending money on.

He isn't deciding, he's identifying and publishing where the money is going. He has zero power to stop anything.
