And I don't think you can say his comments were racist, but when you look at a man with a dark complexion and assume he's of one ethnicity and use that as part of your little fit, you come across as an idiot.

If Hess sucks at his job, he should be fired for sucking at his job. Partly because he is a ref of college basketball, and partly because he (apparently?) sucks at his job, Hess receives a nightly onslaught of mockery and aggressive taunting. So I'm fairly curious as to what Shah said to him that solicited this response. My guess is that it was somewhat more antagonistic than "I believe you made an error on that last call, referee." OR, if Shah wasn't out of line but just giving Hess some good-natured ribbing, how were Hess' comments made? Was he joking with the guy? That sounds like a comment I would make to a buddy who was teasing me about my jump shot. "Oh? Well get your Italian a$$ up here and show me how to do it."
Refs are humans. If you're going to berate them nonstop, you shouldn't get them fired for saying something as innocent as referencing a mistaken heritage. This decision looks disappointing to me, even if most Clemson fans are glad to be rid of him.

And I've seen Hess respond to fans at Clemson games several times before, often with a vile tone. It was only a matter of time that this habit would come back to bite him. I never see any other officials respond to fans
