Report: ACC ends relationship with Karl Hess after remarks to fan |
Controversial ACC basketball referee Karl Hess has been fired according to a report by David Glenn of ACCSports.com.
Hess confirmed to ESPN that he was indeed fired by the ACC. This move was done after an alleged vulgar remark from Hess to fan and one-time Wake Forest board of trustee Mit Shah during the Wake Forest vs Louisville game on Sunday night (1/4/14). Karl Hess to me at the Wake-Louisville game tonight..."When I'm older, I want to sit in your seat & watch your Egyptian ass ref a game" #Wow
Hess declined to comment to The Associated Press on Tuesday about the alleged remarks. Shah is not even Egyptian but of Indian descent. Obviously, refs should be in total control of their surrounding while working games and not have that type of emotional fan interaction. Hess also became infamous with his ejection back in 2012 of N.C. State legends Chris Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta. He told ACC officials that the former players were ejected for "excessive demonstration on several calls." The ACC office publicly reprimanded Hess after reviewing the film. Hess has worked six Final Fours and nine ACC title games in his long and controversial career.
