Biggest Intangible for the CU-UGA Game: The Heat...
May 8, 2013, 3:07 PM
|
|
I have mentioned this before on a few places and no ones seems to think this is an issue.....THE HEAT.
Even as an 8PM kickoff, it will be hot and humid (unless it rains) and that is going to have a major impact on UGa's rebuilt and inexperienced defense...in particular the secondary. It could still be in the 90's at kickoff...
With our depth and ability to quickly substitute and snap around 15-18 seconds, if we are sitting on 40-50 offensive snaps by half time and this game is close I think we have a chance the break it off on UGA in the third QTR........
LSU was falling like flies with guys that will be playing on Sunday and that was in a climate controlled Ga Dome. I have to believe that this is going to be the one intangible that will decide the outcome...which team handles the heat in a high paced game.
I realize UGA will practice no huddle in fall camp, but they cannot simulate the speed and talent of our receivers....they just can't.
UGa will be coming at us to, and our biggest challenge is to not let them grind it out on us....I would rather give up a quick TD chunk play attempting an all out blitz and get the offense back on the field rather than giving up that same TD on a 12 play-10 minute drive.....
Thoughts?

True...but they don't play the high tempo game

UGA's defensive players are used to games that may average around 60-70 defensive snaps because the mighty SEC runs a lot of that ball control offensive.....The Frosh and Sophomores in that first game will have to grow up fast and have to chase Sammy Watkins all night...Heat is going to be big

So you mean conditioning is going to be big.

You make it sound like Georgia is up north. Georgia is used to the heat, same as us. They are just not used to conditioning for a high tempo offense. Much different.

Heat WILL be a factor in this game. As will tempo. Neither of which (IMO) a young Jawja defense will be able to sustain for four full quarters. This game will be close until about mid third quarter.
After that, the Tajh and Sammy show shall take center stage, and the only thing GA defenders will see are Orange jerseys in the enzone.
Mark it down.
Go Tigers!!!

if we keep the ball and move it running lots of plays. If they stop us 3 and out a bunch then it isn't such a big deal.

The heat will help but they will be preparing for this all summer. How well our defense plays will be a bigger key than the heat. South Carolina kept our O off the field and won the game. I know Ga. doesn't have a Clowney and I hope we don't get the big head and we get our tails handed to us the way Alabama did.

It's simple coot

They can't run our Offense at our pace with our speed at the skill positions to practice. That counts too!!
LSU played us indoors!

You're right, their coaching staff has no idea how to prepare for a football game over the summer. They are 8-2 in season opening games (2-0 vs Clemson) over the last 10 seasons with losses against #5 Boise and #9 OSU.

Clemson Team.
They may know how to prepare, what I'm saying is getting prepared with the inexperience they will have and the conditions/speed at which we play cannot be duplicated.
Those two wins were against very different Clemson Teams than this one.
Get over yourself SEC homer!!!

The majority of the game will be played in moderate temps
May 8, 2013, 9:52 PM

It could be in the upper 80's at kick-off; but likely will be in the low 80's.
It will be in the 70's for over half the game.
