Swofford should have been up there too since he gave birth to this mess. Better yet, let Swofford and his T.V. son have a Q and A with the coaches.

Bingo, and I hope that Phillips knows there isn't any love lost for Swofford and Clemson bc most of just hate the H E L L out of that A Hole, and just bc he stole everything he could before he left the ACC, most Clemson fans hate that Fk Boy for totally different reasons, and those reason are bc of the hate he aimed toward Clemson years ago that pushed for Clemson having added probation over what the NCAA handed down on Clemson. ACC punished one of it's 1st member schools only bc Swofford pushed it to happen!!!

Before I read what he said about the student athletes and coaches had nothing to do with the lawsuit about the money end, or the lack of money offered in the contracts, and I was glad to hear him say that he didn't have any ill feelings toward students and coaches, and the whole truth is that they don't have a say so about the suit and what the suit is about. I think the suit was necessary bc FB first schools in the ACC really will have a very difficult time keeping up with the FB first schools in the SEC and the Big 10 when it comes to the FB first ACC schools competing with those conferences year in and year out the ACC FB first schools will get to far behind when it comes to competing against those conferences that are being paid twice the money that ACC schools will get...

Technology isn't cheap, and with those two conferences making twice as much, they can afford technology that the ACC schools can't afford and that puts the ACC FB first school behind the SEC and the Big Ten. IMO that made the lawsuits necessary to keep out GOR if we find a place in the SEC or Big Ten bc there is no way they would accept a school in their conference that didn't have any TV marketing value bc the ACC are saying they own our marketing value until 2036. If Clemson and FSU win this lawsuit, they will have value that another conference can profit from, and without out, we would be like a bum living off of other schools income without them getting anything of value back...

Clemson would have never won a natty or been to the dance many times or had the national signature had it not been for Dabo and the ACC...we would not have stood a chance in the big12, SEC or BIG and Dabo would probably not have been hired or given the freedom he has had in those conferences! Don't crap where you eat and you will get little loyalty when you display little! When FSU was taken their baseball and basketball teams had instant credibility from the conference...no longer did they have to play St. LEOS, Fla. Southern, Valpariso State, Stetson and W. Florida just to get baseball games...they have no loyalty and will get what we deserve...I think we made a rash move under what we perceived as duress and will probably suffer from that...hate it for my Tigers!

ESPN's contract that has created an unfair market for the ACC teams.

The ACC could make a statement to its member institutions by suing ABC/ESPN. The ABC/ESPN contracts with the SEC and ACC willfully and/or intentionally created an unfair market for interstate commerce. ESPN knowingly created a monopoly for SEC football and at the same time intentionally saddled the ACC with a contract that was hugely punitive if it wanted to renegotiate to be remotely competitive with the SEC.

There's no way Swofford knowingly knew the disparities between the contracts and willing signed. I have to believe that ABC/ESPN was not honest in the contract discussions and were most likely misleading.

The ACC and Swofford could not have been that stupid

The ACC and Swofford could not have been that stupid<

Let's blame someone else because we signed a GOR not once but TWICE!!! The ACC isn't worth being within sniffing distance of the P2. Small amounts of eyeballs watching TV, little crowds in the stadiums and is touted as a basketball conference. Well, they don't have many fans with that sport, either. What was it, two years ago, attendance average for basketball the ACC was only 40 fans ahead of the fifth place conference??? Yes, was almost in fifth place for basketball.

I wish things would be as it was twenty years ago. Just play ball and not be all involved with realignment. I think you're in the ACC for the long haul. You can't just break a contract because of changing market conditions. I'm in industrial sales for a Fortune 500 company and one of my customers does work for one of the major automobile manufacturers. They signed a contract to do five years work with a 6 percent increase in payout to them, yearly, if inflation warrants it. Guess what! From the start of that contract with the liberals printing and giving away so much money inflation is through the roof. Their supplies from the inking of that contract has went up 30 to 50 percent. They receive no more money other than 6 percent per year so they are hurting badly. Can't get out of their contract, either, because they agreed to the contract.

Something not seen is going to have to happen to get out of that GOR. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if ESPN picks up the option with the ACC and continues as the media for that conference. Why wouldn't they? If you are bound by a contract you are stuck unless someone can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Can you show me the contract that Clemson and FSU signed to add the three new schools this year? The ACC, to appease a member that isn’t even all in, allowed three new schools that add no extra money but increase our travel budget exponentially.

The ACC did not act in good faith to represent all its members, including the two that pay most of the bills and the only reason the ACC has a seat at any table.

You made the league sign a document to protect the league from poachers. However it constantly and quickly turned into our league being disrespected and not taken seriously in the big money sports. Why..... because the few programs that give a damnn are being looked at as no more than a flash in a pan that other leagues and big media want to put out. They're dang near successful at doing so too....why.... because under your watch you allowed the revenue from other conferences just muscle you out of the way......from the big boy table to the little kids table. The ACC in football as of now by what has transpired has fallen behind the Big XII. A Few teams are sick of taking on the brunt of work and the winnings that has made you and the league money....only to not even be a part of the conversation when it comes to major TV deals... exposure of quality play on the field.....as well as lack of power play money... that you're probably withholding.....to even compete on the same level as the other major neighboring power conferences. On your watch the ACC in football are borderline a league full of cupcakes compared to other conferences.

The ACC’s motivation was to protect the league from poachers.

Clemson and FSU made the deal because, at the t8me we made the deal, there was little chance that SEC would take either / both of us. Clemson and FSU signed bevause we didn’t want to suffer what happened to S.Carolina after S.Carolina left the ACC and ~ 20 years in Independent and (was it MAC?) small-school-conference irrelevance.

Remember, Clemson and FSU signed the ACC’s GoR deal before the NIL and ‘free agent’ college athletes were seriously considered as a near term possibility. It was not until NIL / ‘free agent student athletes’ that those rich schools … fundamentally greater wealth than Clemson and FSU … really flexed their muscle and spent bigly to create Taj Mahal athletic facilities that gave them the NIL and portal advantages which they now enjoy vis a vis the ACC.

As we all know (but only so within the previous 5 years), the soaring success rate of SEC and B1G schools also made their games much more marketable, from an overall / every conference member perspective, TV ratings profile. With the higher ratings came far more lucrative TV contracts. With the enormous additional wealth from the gargantuan TV conferences, the SEC and B1G both became valuable enough to poach historically great FB schools … but those new schools also were selected in the basis of broadening the geography of the TV market for the SEC and B1G.

It was only years ago that Clemson and FSU had first big our Oh Shizzle moment and realized that our ACC GoR conference model’s smallish payout would mean that we could not compete for the ~ professional athletes who could depart any time, for any reason. Before 5 years ago, both Clemson and FSU were satisfied being less wealthy than Bama & UGA & FL & KN State & Michigan because our FB teams could compete in the field as long as we recruited HS athletes successfully.

When all of that changed, Clemson and FSU did the new math and said Ruh Roh. But that didn’t happen until 5 years ago

(*). So, neither Clemson nor FSU were ‘stupid’ or short sighted; we just weren’t legal environment visionaries that anticipated the free agency of college athletes. You know what? Neither were UGA, MI, FL, MI, OH State, etc etc visionaries; they simply held the financial resources advantages that allowed them to buy their way to FB superiority vis a vis Clemson and FSU.

Nobody was stupid.

As far as the GOR, I will agree that at the time circumstances warranted something like that. The stability that it brought should have been beneficial.

However, signing a deal that would last for a decade and a half in a market that has never stayed constant for that long was insanely stupid. It was a desperation move to get a network that has bitten the whole ACC in the butt. Us and FSU are just the ones that have the best options outside of the ACC.

Meanwhile, ABC/ESPN have manipulated the rankings by pushing the SEC (somewhat fairly considering their success) and the B1G (not at all fairly considering their lack of success over the middle portion of the play off era when they were being propped up).

Clemson and FSU should continue to push in court because it's what is best for us. However, the ACC needs to be looking to renegotiate their contract with ESPN since that would be best for both parties. If ESPN is not willing then the ACC needs to look into legal action. ESPN has played favorites which helped lead to the destruction of what was once the country's premier conference and led to the disparity among conferences that we see today. If the ACC can show their value by righting the ship, then I am fine with us continuing our relationship, but someone needs to step to the plate.

How exactly is it “football trolling” or weird to say that Phillips was exhibiting strong leadership?

If I am the ACC, I want my leader doing exactly what he did: reinforcing the strength of the conference, encouraging unity, and vowing to stand up for the members and student-athletes.

What is really weird how some of you are so anti-ACC. It’s been our conference home for 70 years. It’s allowed us to bring in many millions of dollars in revenue, and been a key factor in our success in multiple sports. Acting like we have accomplished what we have without or in spite of the ACC is insane. We have needed them just as much or more than they have needed us.

This notion that the ACC hates us and is trying to hold us back all these years is ignorant. Moreover, expecting the ACC to just let us walk when we had buyer’s remorse for signing an iron clad contract with the ACC twice in recent years is crazy talk. They have no incentive to let us out of the contract, and making them some kind of bad guy in all this is just stupid.

If it was such a horrible conference, why have we stayed here for so long? Why did we willingly and enthusiastically sign the grant of rights to join us at the hip with the conference and everyone else in it through 2036? Answer: it’s not horrible, and we wanted to sign the deal because we thought it was the best thing for us. It turns out we might have been wrong, but that’s the risk you take. Man up and own it and stop trying to act like we are victims.
