Re: Our immigration system sucks, and this is a big reason why.

Well, this is what happens when there is no significant change in immigration legislation in 40 years, despite dramatic changes in global politics and emigration. This issue is more useful as a political cudgel for there to be any motivation to address it. I seem to remember Lindsay Graham being heavily involved in a reform plan about 15 years ago or so that ended up going nowhere, I’m sure there have been other half-hearted attempts.
Look at what happened last week, you have bipartisan legislation to try to work on the issue, and Trump and his goons shut it down. They want the issue, they don’t want it improved or fixed.

than a means to codify expedited immigration at the DHS Secretary's discretion with all judicial review through DC courts.
5000+/day isn't addressing the problem. You can defend it but we both know you can't honestly deny it.

It was a little more than that, let’s at least be honest with ourselves. But ok, let’s say it’s crap. So if it’s crap, work on it and make it not crap. Take HR 2 and the Senate plan and make something that works that can get enough votes to pass. They did not, and will not. They instead impeached the person they blame for the issue that they have no intention to try to solve. It’s just for the drama.

addressed whatsoever. Then they get one Pub senator to 'negotiate' in secret a Senate bill and release it two days before calling for a vote.
'Democracy by ambush" at best... The general public doesn't even know anything about HR 2. Bad polls so they had to do something.
As to Mayorkas, the border went from being "closed" to being a "crisis" in a matter of a few weeks. Again...polls.

“Make something that works that can get enough votes to pass”, LOL. How about the administration preventing illegals from coming into the country. That bill alliwed 5,000 per day with not doing a thing-that is 1,825,000 per year with nothing. Why don’t the Democrats want our borders secure?

If it’s that simple and no legislation is needed, why was it the second thing the Republican house passed when they took control?

The Dems caved on many points, and were willing to give the GOP alot of what they wanted. Then, Trump told the MAGA's not to give Biden an election-year victory.
The GOP has NEVER been interested in solving this issue. I think we all know why at this point. It's better as a political talking point than as an issue that causes them to actually govern.
It reminds me of the ACA. For 7 years, the GOP screamed at the top of their lungs, "repeal and replace." Then, when they had all levers and could actually do that, they had nothing....

The bill was ####. It was still going to allow 5,000 a day over the border. That’s 1.8 million a year. A record number of border crossings before Biden got to office. You can’t defend it.

It was going to allow no more than 5000/day over a 1 week average to be processed. That is probably the number they feel they can handle without overwhelming the system. Nice try. 😆

5, 50, 500, 5,000? Why should we let any illegal aliens into the US?

No more than 8500 on a single day and no more than 5000/day on one week average. As long as the numbers stay below that, it's screen, detain, deport. When it gets over that, it's detain, deport. Do you prefer catch and release when the system becomes overwhelmed?
