Clemson commitment and Charlotte running back Mike Bellamy ran for 168 yards on 27 carries and scored one touchdown as Charlotte (12-0) survived with a 7-0 win over Cape Coral in the Class 4A-Region 3 semifinal. Bellamy also had two interceptions to help seal the victory.
The touchdown was the 110th of Bellamy’s career and his 7,269 career rushing yards is now fifth all-time in the state of Florida. However, Bellamy did have two fumbles in the red zone. The second fumble was on a 48 yard run to secure the victory in the final moments, but the referees ruled the Cape Coral defender knocked the ball out of his hands just before the end zone and Cape Coral recovered in the end zone for a touchback. Charlotte advances to the region final Friday at Seffner Armwood.
