Clemson hires former Gamecocks defensive coordinator |
A former Gamecock has now joined the Tigers.
Former South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward has joined the Clemson football staff as a special assistant to the head coach. Ward recently posted a picture of him in a Clemson shirt, showing him being a proud member of the football program. TigerNet's David Hood first reported the news on our football message board. Ward was the defensive coordinator at South Carolina under Steve Spurrier from 2009-2015. Since then, he has had several college coaching stops, including Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Fresno State, and Louisville. Most recently, Ward has been the defensive coordinator at FCS Chattanooga since 2019. Ward was a teammate of Dabo Swinney at Alabama during the 1990 season and a grad assistant for the Crimson Tide the following season.
