Coming off of a disappointing opener, Clemson returns home as a double-digit favorite.
Clemson (0-1) is a 16.5-point favorite versus Appalachian State (1-0), according to FanDuel. The Tigers have never lost versus the former FCS program, going 5-0 in a series stretching back to 1984. Clemson won 41-10 in the last meeting in 2015. App State beat East Tennessee State, 38-10, in its opener Saturday. In recent seasons, the Mountainers went to double OT in a loss at UNC last year (40-34) and won 17-14 at No. 6 Texas A&M in 2022, also a Week 2 game. They fell just 25-23 at No. 22 Miami in 2021. Clemson is coming off of a second-half domination by the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta, losing 34-3. The Tigers have won every home opener under Dabo Swinney. Clemson's chances by ESPN's Matchup Predictor fell slightly from the preseason projection, down from 83.6% to 81.5%. ESPN's FPI dropped the Tigers six spots to No. 23 after Saturday. The Mountaineers are 76th in that rating. The game is an 8 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
