Mike, a strong legged punter, played with the Chicago Bears (Preseason, averaging 43.5 yards per punt) until he had an injury which almost ended his career. He also played for the World League of American Football. He made a name for himself after averaging 44.5 yards a punt at Badin High School (OH). He was named an All-State punter in 1985 and chose Illinois State University, where he was a four year letter winner. He led the nation for 1-AA with a 44.1 yard average in 1988, and was rated number 2 in net yard average (38.9), and set several school and conference records, including longest punt (74 yards), most career punts 262, career average (40.0), total yards (10,460) and ten punts over 60 yards in one season. Mike was named 1st team in five out of six All-American Teams including Kodak, Walter Camp, AP, Don Hansen and the Sporting News. He was also named the best draft choice by USA Today. He has since been inducted into the Badin High School Hall of Fame. Currently, Mike serves as the Kicking instructor at the Miami Hurricanes (MET-Rx) football camp, and coaches kickers and punters from across the country. Mike has the ears of almost every major college football coaches, through his articles for American Football Monthly, and his valuable advise and assessments of the top High School kicking and punting talent.
