Haydrian Lewis (6-0, 170, 4.5) committed to Clemson during the summer before his senior season but he could have committed even before that. “After my sophomore season I went up to the Clemson camp,” said Lewis. “Coach Bowden came up to me and told me he wanted to offer me a scholarship. I didn’t know what to say because I was young but it felt good. They were the first team to offer me and I want to stick with them.”

Lewis talked to us earlier Sunday at the Shriners Hospital as he prepared for the first practice of the week at 9:30 AM Monday. “It is a pleasure to be here at the Shrine Bowl. I thank the coaches for picking for the game and it feels great to be here.”

As a senior he had 56 tackles, five interceptions, 16 passes broken up, one caused fumble, one fumble recovery and three tackles for loss. Lewis also returned kicks and punts for Stratford. “We had a good season. Our seniors led us especially on defense. We were the number-two defense in the state this season.”

“I have played corner since my sophomore season. I want to improve my strength and speed and also get better mentally. I want to work on my quickness and flexibility.”

Lewis likes his team’s chances on Saturday. “I think we have a good Shrine Bowl team and we are here to play to win.”

As for recruiting, Lewis says he has told Clemson recruiter Burton Burns that he is firm to the Tigers. He said he will visit January 14 and will take no other official visits.

Listen to “The Overdrive” this week for audio of this interview and many others from the Shrine Bowl all week. The show airs from 3-5 PM on WCCP-FM 104.9 or on the internet at www.wccpfm.com.
