Swinney on Spurrier missing from rivalry game

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney took part in the weekly ACC teleconference on Tuesday and answered a question about how strange it will be without Steve Spurrier on the sidelines for Saturday's rivalry game against the Gamecocks.

"No, I mean it’s different with him not being there, but that all transpired a while ago," Swinney said. "The difference from a game plan standpoint is they’ve had different play callers and different schematic things throughout the season. They’ve shown about everything. It’s a lot to get ready for; that’s the biggest challenge."

Swinney was asked if he will miss Spurrier on the sidelines for the rivalry game.

"No, I’m not worried about South Carolina, I’m just worried about playing a great game," Swinney said. "I don’t get excited about the opponents’ coach; I’m dialed in pregame and just getting ready for the game. I will miss Coach Spurrier from a college football standpoint because he’s one of the best ever to walk the sidelines, but he will resurface somewhere and be a part of the game. Our conversations were always short and brief, so I don’t think that’s a real big deal at all."

The Gamecocks were 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the SEC when Spurrier abruptly quit in the middle of the season. Spurrier finished with 86 wins and 49 losses in 11 years with the Gamecocks.
