Clemson student becomes 'face of storm' for Edisto Beach's recovery efforts |
The Edisto Beach (S.C.) community was devastated by Hurricane Matthew as it left some of the worst flood damage since 1979's destruction by Hurrican David.
A South Carolina Guardsman named Dillon Overton, 11 Bravo Infantry was highlighted on the Edisto Beach Police Department Facebook page this week for his response and help during this stressful time for many of the local residents. “We have been able to identify this soldier who put himself in harm’s way to help our community. He has become the face of the storm for us. His name is Dillon Overton,” the post says. “He is also a Clemson University student. Thank you, Dillon!” "SC National Guardsman wading to go door to door to check on residents. Amazing young people!" Overton is currently a mechanical engineering student at Clemson University. Some residents from Edisto Beach were able to return to their residence on Tuesday.
