CFB Director: "significant gap between Alabama" and other teams |
The first College Football Playoff ranking was released on Tuesday night with the top seeds going to Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, and surprisingly Texas A&M.
College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock told WNSP-FM 105.5 on Thursday evening that Alabama is far away the best team in the nation. "Based on what's happened so far this season, clearly, Alabama is such a complete team," Hancock said. "The was a significant gap between Alabama (and the rest of the teams.) Then Clemson and Michigan were together. Then Texas A&M, Washington, Ohio State and Louisville were all in the next group. "Clearly, at this point in the season, Alabama has firmly established itself No. 1. Alabama is a complete team on both sides of the ball. Tremendous athletes on defense. They are very well coached." "I think it is kind of like Iowa last year," Hancock said about Clemson. "They just kept winning. Obviously, they get the committee's attention when you play a schedule that has teams in a grouping with you. Clemson won eight games. Clemson is the only team in our ranking that has beaten two of the teams in our top 10 with Auburn and Louisville." Clemson has wins over #7 Louisville, #9 Auburn and #22 Florida State. This is the 14th all-time College Football Playoff ranking and only three teams have been #1: Clemson (six weeks), Alabama (five weeks), and Mississippi State (three weeks). Clemson is No 2 in #CFP rankings but No 1 in ESPN's SOR metric First Rankings: #CFBPlayoff Top 25 pic.twitter.com/W9tz3euNNL
