Notre Dame jumps Clemson into AP top-5 |
While Coaches Poll moved Clemson up to the top-5 Sunday, the new Associated Press top 25 turned elsewhere for that fifth spot.
Notre Dame moved up four spots after downing No. 14 NC State 35-14 at home Saturday. After upsets of No. 2 Penn State and No. 4 TCU, Clemson slid up one spot to No. 6. The win was a second over a top-15 opponent in as many weeks for the Fighting Irish, who downed No. 11 Southern Cal 49-14 as well. They also lost by one at home to now-No. 2 Georgia, 20-19. Clemson owns two wins over current top-16-ranked teams, Virginia Tech (13) and Auburn (16), and play at new-No. 20 NC State next week. The new top-five is Alabama and Georgia, which gained two first-place votes this week, then Ohio State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. The polls will start to take a turn starting Tuesday, where the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings are due around 7 p.m. Tuesday night. AP Top 25 - 10/29 Record Pts Prv 1.
