Unlike Spurrier, I can make a promise.

Aug 22, 2005, 9:07 PM

And unlike Holtz, when I make a promise I have every intention of keeping it.

As the days of the 2005 offseason wind down, I would like to take this moment to publicly pledge to support my Tigers.

To the players I promise to cheer your accomplishments and share the pain of our failures. I will remember that when I'm hurting from a loss, you will be hurting more. And I will keep in mind that you are a kid playing a game and I am the adult.

To the coaching staff I promise to not pretend I know more about football than you. I will respect your position and refrain from criticizing your performance. I will do my job as a fan and allow you to do yours asa coach.

To Coach Bowden I promise to support you 100 percent and trust that no matter what happens you will be working your tail off to get it corrected. I will be patient when things don't go as planned, because I know there will be another FSU, or UT, or Miami type victory to cherish very soon. I will not say you are on the hot seat, nor will I stand quietly by while others throw out that garbage. I think you have earned at least that much respect.

To the other fans, I will treat you with respect and try to separate the person from the fan. Even cockfans.

To the game officials I promise nothing. I will jeer you relentlessly when you make a bad call against my Tigers. I will even do it when I think you make a bad call. So you better get it right.

And lastly, to the other 82,000 Clemson fans in the Valley, I promise to be louder during the entire game than I have ever been. As a fan in the stands I only have one job to do. I intend to do it well.

Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The one who thinks we can and the one who thinks we can't are both right! Which one are you, son? Which one are you, son?"

I do believe...
