President Clements

Oct 11, 2016, 4:22 PM

Had anyone noticed that since President Clements has taken over there has been an influx of extreme leftist political views floating around campus?

Nope. It's a college campus so it is a sign of good health if there are a variety of ideas floating around. It's part of the experience to be challenged, consider new ideas, and defend those beliefs you hold as true.

The only "variety of ideas" is the influx of leftist ideas. Let's stick to the facts... oh, wait, leftists can't tolerate facts...

Both political positions are too extreme for me. Both try and shove their people's throats.

As a Clemson grad I'm sick of coming on to Tigernet and seeing people like you attack an entire segment of the population because they don't see the world through the same prism you do. You would have been ridiculed and laughed out of my Poli Sci classes at Clemson. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe you don't have all the answers?

I don't know what your affinity is for Clemson, but you're clearly a dangerous combination of ignorant and intolerant.

Everything you just said about "right-wingers" actually applies to the far left as well. People on either end of the spectrum tend to be unreasonable and completely miserable human beings. This is exactly where you sit.

You'll likely end up in a really bad place one day, if you haven't already arrived. Do everybody a favor and stay off Tigernet. Mental midgets like you should be banned from the internet and Tigernet in-general.

"We" don't want you here.

Sincerely,

Clemson Grads.

p.s. don't try the whole "I graduated from Clemson thing". You didn't, it's obvious.

On college campuses today, the "progressives" are the one who stifle free speech and demand their safe spaces.

Funny thing!

As a MODERATE I can assure you that both sides are guilty of it. And both sides blame the other guy for doing it while ignoring their own guilt. Welcome to American politics!

Yeah, but we all know that if you're championing a left-wing or "politically correct" cause you essentially have a free pass to do and say whatever you want.

If you're Conservative, Christian, or Jewish for that matter there's a lot less "tolerance" for your opinions in the open forum.

There's just a general inlux of agitators nationwide.

Oct 11, 2016, 4:28 PM

But, he did vote to move the ACCCG, so who knows? They should have been voting to relocate the ACC offices out of NC, not punishing local businesses.

Its a wash with businesses.
While NC businesses will lose business other states will gain business. Net zero.
In fact argument can be made that other states suffered because too many games were held in NC.

The power of your ideas is the most important thing. Both sides need to listen to each other more, and talk over each other less. We would all be better off and better for it. I suspect that President Clements would welcome your ideas, if delivered in a thoughtful and respectful way. I bet you are up to the task; we already know you are smart. After all, you are a Tiger.

Thank goodness, but I assure it has nothing to do with Clements. Conservatism is dying with the older generation.

Not President Clements' doing. More a reflection of the national political and educational climate, facilitated by social media and backed by outside money.

Heard we voted to move ACCCG from NC, i will change my Will

Oct 11, 2016, 11:33 PM

I plan to write to the Board and ask if this is so. Though not a rich man I had Clemson in my Will for a small percentage, I will need to change that if indeed Clemson voted to move the ACCCG.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I really hope you reconsider. In the balance of all the good

Oct 12, 2016, 12:09 AM

Clemson does for young people, a 1/14 vote for moving one ACC Championship game (if Clemson did vote that way) should not outweigh the rest.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He is a great president. From an academic

standpoint, Clements is pushing the university into greater national esteem and recognition. He is also a GREAT supporter of Clemson athletics.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How so?

Oct 12, 2016, 9:22 AM

"From an academic standpoint, Clements is pushing the university into greater national esteem and recognition."

How so?

I mean, I made that argument with President Barker and believe I can defend it. During his presidency, Clemson went from 38 to 22 in US News top public universities. He created the ICAR. Applications skyrocketed and the overall quality of the student body increased significantly. Research funding and the endowment also increased significantly. The quality of the facilities on campus increased significantly.

Dr Clements has been the university president for two years. I have seen protests, some crazy situation about bananas, a vote to move championship games (which absolutely puts a hardship on his alumni and fan base) over a political situation...but of course these are headlines. The good stuff doesn't always lead. So what makes you say that he is pushing us into greater national esteem?

Like the KKK recruiting flyers that showed up this week?

Oct 12, 2016, 7:02 AM

Those don't seem leftist to me. Extreme, definitely.

[Note: I am not assigning blame or responsibility of KKK flyers to Clements' presidency, because that would be equally absurd as the original post.]
