Bowden's Comments at Aiken Club Meeting Last Night

Three things staff is focusing on in spring ball: linebackers, offensive line, and leadership. Jeremy Campbell is stepping up at LB (had 2 INTs during last Thursday?s scrimmage), McKissic is competing well at LT, and Bowden believes the good group of seniors will provide the leadership.
Rendrick Taylor is moving back to WR.
Michael Wade and Mason Cloy are pleasant surprises thus far.
Marquan Jones and Da?Quan Bowers continue to look good and will almost definitely play this year. For the freshmen coming in August, expect Harper and Ellington to play. Also need one of the incoming linebackers and one of the safetys to step up this year. Bowden also said that, on film, McClain may be the most talented OL he has had at Clemson.
While there could be a surprise, right now Bowden expects all 25 signees to qualify.
Other players showing good potential in spring practice: Richard Jackson, Brandon Maye, Chad Diehl, Byron Clear, Brandon Clear, and David Smith.
Twenty-five players will have their degree by end of the year.
Second team defense is young, but very talented.
Jacoby Ford will be 100% by August---mainly needs work with the QBs now.

I believe that Ellington is a lock for playing time.
We lose CJ and James after 08, so we need 2 guys with experience. Also, it will be very easy for them to get snaps because we play SCSU and The Citadel early.
Expect the freshmen RB's to begin getting snaps in the 2nd quarter against SCST and El Cid. We also play Duke at home, heavy snaps for the backups in that one as well.
Furthermore, at our current pace of recruiting RBs there's no point in anyone getting a redshirt. We are simply reloading.

he has the type of ability and speed the NFL wants no matter what his numbers look like after another season of splitting carries with another NFL back. Some things you can't coach and CJ has those. Plus, CJ wants to go early because he wants the money for his family.

CJ will be a lock 1st round pick just because he will run a sub 4.3 at the NFL combine next year. He will be a special teams guy as well as a 3rd down back, doesn't matter what his college numbers are. He has the ability to change a game with one play...very few have that ability. This isn't the case for JD, for him to be a 1st rounder, he will need to have a huge season this year as well as impress the scouts. This, even though JD is a better running back.
