In memory of my grandfather...a story

At the last Clemson/Carolina game that my grandfather attended in Death Valley he was about to walk in to the game a few minutes after kick-off and a Carolina fan approached him wanting some tickets. My grandfather had a couple extra and asked the man how much he would give for them. The coot told my grandfather in a snotty, better-than-thou attitude that since the game already started that he would give him $2 for the tickets and that Carolina was going to win anyways. My grandfather took the tickets out, ripped them up in front of the guy and said “see you after the game.”

My grandfather had a heart attack in Death Valley just as the Tigers pulled out a last second win against the Chickens. As he was being transported to the hospital in the ambulance, with a huge grin on his face he told my father that if he was going to die, he wouldn’t want it to happen any other way in any other place.

He was truly a die-hard Clemson fan who left this earth at 53 yrs. old in 1982. He did get to see his Tigers win the National Championship.

Maybe we will win another before I am a grandfather…
