A Marine's take on the recruiting methods...

Jan 27, 2011, 4:43 PM

So, the Marine Corps has been recruiting the same demographic as college coaches and we've been doing it far longer. We're not promising a chance to be anything other than someone who does what the country asks of him and the consequences could be far worse than not starting in college or reaching the NFL.

And we compete with the same qualified pool of applicants as all of the other services.

Many recruiters will tell you the stories of the kids who walk in and say that another service offered him $$ for college, bonuses and etc. And many outright ask the recruiter, "So what can the Marine Corps offer me?"

That's when the recruiter usually kicks Johnny out of the office because it isn't about what the Marine Corps can offer him. What does he have to offer the Corps?

It is very effective. Just look at our 235 years of history.

I think in some instances it can serve Clemson just as well.

I like your take, but for the record.....

the Marine Corps were on me to join harder than any other branch (well, the ARMY was close) and they offered the most "incentives" and sweet talk.

Maybe it was just my recruiter. He may have been way low in his quota.

Air Force didn't even open their doors except twice a month, btw.

"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car."

"I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it."

Oh, don't get me wrong. Recruiters have to work their butts

off and individual recruiters have different methods. But if you look across the recruiting command, this is the philosophy.

exactly and

churches should be the same way. When did church become a place to be served instead of a place to serve?

Marines want youngsters who want to be Marines.***

And Clemson should want kids that want to play for Clemson

Personally, I support Dabo's actions in recruiting. Its old fashion, but I was raised that a man is only as good as his word, and once it is given it is never taken back, good, bad, or whatever.

If you are not ready to give your word, DON'T COMMIT. There is nothing wrong with taking your time to make a decision, but I think there is something wrong with giving your word and then going back on it.

Football is not a game limited to 40 times and bench press reps, a lot of the game is embodied in a young man's ability to give his word, and then have the strength and conviction to live by it.

A marine friend of mine told a similar story....

Jan 27, 2011, 7:43 PM

He was waiting outside of his recruiter's office and overheard another recruit ask the recruiter about $$ for joining. Recruiter told him to "get the f--- out of my office"

You know why once a Marine always a Marine

position. I always say, " The hardest one to sell is the one you HAVE to sell ". Some times, you have to be willing to say no.
