Cadence Count qestion...

1

Jun 6, 2004, 9:43 PM

I'm trying to prove a point with this thread, so help me out if you can.

I know for a fact that the Cadence Count starts, "C-L-E-M in Cadence Count." However, a couple of my friends are insisting that it starts by saying "CLEM CLEM and Cadence Count." Why would you spell CLEM twice to start the cheer? Anyways, I've been a student here for three years and have never heard it started that way until tonight, so let me know what you think.

P.S. I also hate it when people start the cheer by jumping straight to 1234, 1234.... Just thought i'd add that.

I've always heard it as..."1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, c-l-e-m-s-o-n, t-i-g-e-rrr-s fight tigers fight tigers fight fight fight!!!" I didn't know there was another way it was supposed to start?

it starts by one person yelling "C L E M and Cadence Count!!!" Then everyone chants "1234 1234 c l e m s o n....."

Thats the way its supposed to start... Just another technicality like the woohoo i guess.

Back in the old days when it really was a marching cadence count it was the command "C L E M in cadence count." At which point when the left foot hit the ground you would begin "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, C, L, E, M, S, O, N, Fight Tigers, Fight #### it Fight Fight. I don't know when the "#### it" disappeared but sometime after 1970. I marched a "few" miles to that cadence call going to and from drill every Thursday afternoon for four wonderful years. I guess you could say the name of the cheer now is CLEM in cadence count and it really does begin with 1,2,3,4.... That way everyone can be right and no one feels bad about themselves so we are politically correct and don't use any profanity either. Hope your sarcasim meter is turned on high

I always thought it was Fight Tigers Fight D!@# It, Fight Fight Fight....but wondered what had happened as of late. I continue to say the old version.

Fight Tigers, Fight D***it, Fight, Fight, Fight (3 fights!!)
I hope it hasn't oficially been changed. It was good enough for 40 years before that.

I wish I still had my rat book. Does anyone still have theirs?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm just saying that 40 years ago it had 3 "fights"

If it is changed now, so be it. It still means more than any other cheer in college sports !!

Two fight's only. Was that way in '60's. Rats had to yell it enough in mess hall to ever forget.
