Spencer Adams

May 10, 2008, 3:00 PM

Spencer just set a USA record in the 110 meter hurdles at the 4A N. C. state championship. His 4X200 race of which my grandson, Jeremy Johnson, runs the first leg and Spencer runs the last leg, won the state championship. They still have the 4 X 100 race and Spencer has 55 meter? hurdles to run. Will keep you updated.

It's a little late, but in the 4X100, Butler won the State 4A Championship. In the 55 meter? hurdles, Spencer came in 4th. My son said he was absolutely exhauted. He ran in the two hurdle heats, winning both, the 2 heats for the 4X100 and the 4X200 and then the actual events. By the time the final hurdle race came about, he just had no second wind. He's a great, great, athlete though, and a super nice young man. Butler lost the state over-all championship by 6 pts. but the Butler girls won the state 4a title. Congratulations to them all. My grandson, Jeremy Johnson, who ran the first leg in the 4X100 and the 4X200 wanted to come to Clemson, and applied, and wanted to walk on the track team, but the powers that be denied him admission and appeal, even though he had a high grade pt. ratio, was captain of the Dream Team at Butler, a group that talks with other school kids and teenagers, about drinking, smoking and drugs, He certainly deserved to be admitted. However, he is going to Tennessee. He has been cleared by the NCAA and will be on the Tennessee Track Team. If he runs the 100 meter in 10.7, he gets a scholarship. He's been hurt, and in his last three races, ran 10.8. Bummer, but at least he is on the team. Just makes me sick that he will be in the wrong orange color. It truly is Clemson's loss. Congratulations to the Butler teams.
