Steve Spurrier is 7-5 in JUST his 2nd year at USC

Dec 9, 2006, 8:51 PM

I keep hearing USC fans bring that up when it's pointed out that Coach Bowden has a better record THIS year than Coach Spurrier. Their rebuttal is that it's just SOS's 2nd year. If I'm not mistaken, Tommy was 9-2 in his second regular season outscoring his opponents 396-212. That was just 2 years removed from a 3-8 team. SOS is 7-5 in his second regular season from 6-5 two years ago. Conversely, Lou Holtz was 7-4 in his second season following a 20 game losing streak.

So what exactly does this mean in the long run? Nothing. Just thought it was interesting.

Holtz had a good 2nd year too. Carolina fans are the eternal optimists, but they have no where to go but up.

In reviewing the Sagarin ratings for Bowden's second year the strength of schedule was 67th , in Spurrier's second year the strength of schdule was 15th . Apples and oranges .

Spurrier is making USC a better team and program BUT

Dec 9, 2006, 10:46 PM

they still have yet to show any real sign of becoming a better program than UT, UF, or UGA.

By the time they DO do that...Spurrier will be gone

Just wait 'til next year. :)

Spurrier is just the latest in a long line of Coot coaches that have supposedly "got this thing on the right track."

Then it is always followed by..."Just wait until he gets HIS boys in here."

Oh well...all you have to say about Coot football is that Spurrier is the first USC coach to have led his team to two bowls in his first two seasons.

Wow! Isn't Spurrier the greatest? Or could it be that Coot football has been just a little less than average over its history.

According to most USC fans, we will never beat them

Dec 10, 2006, 9:17 AM

again as long as they have Spurrier. This is based on one game in which they won by a missed field goal - not a dominating 63-17 performance.

What do you expect from such delusional people?

Eh, we have heard that the last 2 years***
