Duane Coleman ...

It dawned on me once again Saturday that Duane Coleman will always be on my list of all-time favorite Tigers.
And not simply because he has cool hair.
Or because he flat out gives his best effort, with enthusiasm, on every play.
Or because he stood up to that Tennessee thug at the Peach Bowl.
Last year, when it became clear that Clemson had better players at tailback and he wasn't going to play much, Coleman approached the coaches NOT about a transfer, but about a move to cornerback.
I'm sure there were many skeptics who didn't think he'd ever see the field on the defensive side of the ball.
Instead of pouting, Coleman worked hard and was starting by the end of the season.
Likewise, he came to Clemson as a partial qualifier knowing he had to work hard academically even to get a chance to play this season. He didn't back down from the challenge. Again, he worked hard and did what he had to do.
The world needs more guys like Duane Coleman, who don't run and hide from challenges or expect everything to be handed to them.
This young man has heart and character, which will serve him well long after his playing days are done.
Others on the team grab the spotlight, but Duane Coleman's story is something that should not be lost on us, as these seniors prepare for their final game in Death Valley.
