ACC teams and SEC teams since 1998

Jan 6, 2006, 1:29 PM

Since 1998, teams now in the ACC have played teams now in the SEC a total of 60 times. In head to head match ups, ACC teams lead the head to head games 32-28.

All 12 ACC teams have played SEC teams over this time frame. Every SEC team except Alabama and Arkansas has played an ACC team.

Since 1998, Tenn and LSU have each won a national title. Since 1998, FSU and Miami have each won a national title.

Since 1998 there have been FOUR years where the ACC won the head to head match ups and FOUR years where the SEC won.

Since 1998, there have been 40 teams now in the ACC ranked in the final collegiate football poll. Since 1998, there have been 39 SEC teams ranked in the final collegiate football poll.

It looks pretty even to me.

Unreasonable comparison...by the time an SEC plays an ACC

Jan 6, 2006, 1:34 PM

team they are either (1) too injured or worn out from the rigors of their SEC schedule or (2) they didn't care, were not motivated about playing such a lowly team or in such a lowly bowl game.

At least that is what our feathered counterparts would say.

That's always been my question to SEC fans.

Jan 6, 2006, 1:38 PM

Why can't everyone just admit that the two (ACC/SEC) are pretty much equal and be done with it??

GO TIGERS!!

Because the ACC is better. But screw the ACC anyway.

Jan 6, 2006, 1:40 PM

Bragging about conferences is cootish.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was kind of my point.

Jan 6, 2006, 1:42 PM

I only see one reason to brag one way or another about conference this or conference that, and that's if you happen to lose to someone from the other conference.

GO TIGERS!!

Do these numbers include bowl match ups?

Jan 6, 2006, 1:40 PM

If not, I bet it would favor the ACC.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wouldn't you have to include those matchups though?***

GO TIGERS!!

All games included in the 32-28 tally. In bowls only.......

Jan 6, 2006, 1:57 PM [ in reply to Do these numbers include bowl match ups? ]

...here's how it went:

In 1998, VT beat Alabama, FSU lost to Tenn and Virginia lost to Georgia in bowls.

In 1999, Clemson lost to Miss State in the Peach Bowl.
In 2000, Virginia lost to Georgia, and Miami beat Florida in bowls.
In 2001, BC beat Georgia in a bowl.
In 2002, Maryland beat Tenn and Georgia beat FSU in bowls.
In 2003, Clemson beat Tenn in a bowl.
In 2004, VT lost to Auburn and Miami beat Florida in bowls.

In 2005, LSU beat Miami in the Peach Bowl.

That makes the bowl head to head count 7 wins for the SEC and 6 wins for the ACC.

Still looks even.

Is it really? Our regular SEC opponent is a joke so it kind

Jan 6, 2006, 1:47 PM

of skews it! :)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What skews it............

Jan 6, 2006, 2:03 PM

...is that Vandy has 6 wins against NO defeats to Wake and Duke over this time frame.

and it isn't skewed the fact we're 1-6. So it equals out.

You are 2-9 against the ACC since 1998.

Jan 6, 2006, 2:24 PM

You are 1-7 versus Clemson.
You are 0-1 versus NCSU.
You are 1-1 versus Virginia.

That makes it hilarious to read a misguided SC fan calling it the A-SHE-SHE. "SHE" is kicking your butt.

Jan 6, 2006, 4:03 PM

we'd be 2-8, we can't play you 8 times in 7 years. We may have a record bringing down our conference, but the conference is still better.

Here are the scores

Jan 6, 2006, 5:10 PM

11/21/98....CU 28-19
11/20/99....CU 31-21
11/18/00....CU 16-14
11/17/01.............SC 20-15
11/23/02....CU 27-20
11/22/03....CU 63-17
11/20/04....CU 29-7
11/19/05....CU 13-9

Looks like 1-7 to me.
Lou lost his first game to NCSU 0-10.
Lou split with Virginia.

That's 2-9.

AS far as your conference being better....make the case. ACC leads in head to head since 1998. ACC and SEC are tied in national titles. ACC leads in ranked teams. SEC leads 7-6 in head to head bowls. SO, you make your case.
I've made mine.

Sounds to me like 'you just know' the SEC is better and the facts will not change your mind. I'm ok with that.
