It's time

Mar 3, 2012, 12:03 PM

I know people are going to kill me for this. But it's time for Coach Leggett to step aside gracefully after this season.
He has done a great job with the program, much like Coach Wilhelm. But Coach Wilhelm knew when it was time, and it's time again.
Coach Leggett has earned the right to go out on his terms, but it's time.
The team is 1-16 in its past 17 one-run games, and that's just beyond awful. But Coach Leggett is just wound so tight, and his players play that way in big games.

Let the season run its course...its baseball people

We're ranked 15th in the nation. Pop you a happy pill and relax.

I'm not rabid about it. Just saying this program has peaked with it's current leadership.

Fire Jack! Who in the world would you get to replace Jack. That makes no sense at all.

Nowhere was it mentioned to fire him. Read something before you make silly comments.

Did I say fire him? Can you READ?
But Tim Corbin would be an excellent choice. Our recruiting hasn't been the same since he left.

Corbin is sitting on a 1-7 record right now and has only been to 1 CWS.

Mel,on one hand you say you do not want to fire him and on the other you name his replacement you can't have it both ways.

There's no reason why any random person can't speculate about who might make a valid successor to Leggett...

the idiocy of some of you are just off the chain. jack just hired one of the best recruiters in the country last year. this program was/is and will be just fine now and in the future

Needs to hire a hitting coach and a pitching coach and made a head-coach as well (to make him relax a little bit so his players can relax in big games).

yes, use the clemson football model for baseball- keep

hiring supposed great assistants and recruiters to make the head coach look better. Hows that been working for us?

Dang...we are getting as bad as the New York Yankees.

Except..we are putting our money in coaches.

That's the legal way to try and do it. Unlike your team who puts your money in players. That's about to be nipped in the bud though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Uh.. Don't look now, but your team just won the ACC

and played in a BCS bowl. I'd say it's working pretty well at this point.

Your post is down right comical. I mean really. You were in the CWS 2 years ago, you make the regionals and super regionals yearly, you're ranked 15th, and you lost to a top 2-3 ranked team. Big wow. Now you want to fire a coach? You people kill me. I'm not a CU fan or a Leggett fan....but he's a good coach overall and you sure won't get one better if he leaves. But hey, go for it and watch as your team tumbles into mediocrity. At least now, you're somewhat relevant.

Re: It's time

Mar 4, 2012, 12:29 PM

You're correct to a degree. Jack is a good coach and he'll have us in the Top 25 most years, Top 10 every once in awhile. However, Clemson's baseball program should be in the Top 10 80+% of the time. Your school, as much as I truly despise them, has raised the bar. Jack is always going to be second in the state to Tanner; it's a painful reality for Tiger fans.
I would rather risk getting a new coach who can RAISE the bar, not just try to hold on (barely) to what we have been for 30 years. Some like Jack and I understand that but I'm more about Clemson than ANY particular coach. We should expect much more out of our baseball program than we have gotten in recent years. The debate is how best to resolve the waning baseball program we currently have, which is the only honest assessment one without Jack-colored glasses can reach.
I would prefer to move on to another coach but if Jack stays, how long should he have to get us back to a higher level or should we just accept being second best in the state and a better than average but seldom outstanding team?
