can I request a moratorium on the WV jokes? It's kind of ridiculous to stereotype an entire state as inbred, stupid hicks. Especially when our university is located in a pretty redneck state itself with some of the same stereotypes associated with it. It always irks me that this idea is perpetuated because West Virginia is a beautiful state with lots of wonderful people (at least in the southern part, where WVU is NOT located). As for jokes about WVU, have at it!

but there's no mistaking where he stood poliically on integration during those tumultuous years that were the late 50's/early60's.
Needs also to be noted that Thurmond did a 180 degree reversal on his stance later in his life even publically acknowledging and taking care of an out-of-wedlock interracial child.
Like all of us, Thurmond was a contradiction in life, but he loved Clemson and the state of South Carolina

I'm a native West Virginian myself (born in Bluefield,) although I was raised in S.C. I'm always referring to the Mountaineers, when joking, except for some of my kin up there who still come to visit with their wagons and mules...and coon dogs...and shine...and barefooted, gap-toothed, pigtailed cousins...and old, Aunt Florie Mae strapped up top the wagon in her rocker! W-H-E-E-E D-O-G-G-I-E-S!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I do a lot of work in WV. Worked in Madison (Jesco's town) a few months ago. While we were there, the local high school was shut down because there was meth residue in the duct work. Seems the principal and assistant superintendent were cooking in the lab there. No lie.

I'm sure most of western Europe thinks all Americans are rednecks... with the possible exception of NYC, Boston, Chicago, San Fran, & L.A. ...
Everybody outside the southeastern US thinks we're all rednecks...
People in VA turn their nose up at NC... people in NC think they're superior to SC...
South Carolina? ... as the saying goes... thank God for Mississippi (and possibly WV) LOL
If you live in Greenville, the rednecks are all around you... in Easley, Travelers Rest, Gray Court...
And sitting right here in my house, the rednecks are next door... those azzholes from Meeshegun

Well, I'm from Georgia & both SC & WV are the centers of the Neck universe! You have to question any state that would allow Columbia to be its capital.
I am kidding of course. Rednecks are everywhere but seem to be especially thick in the midlands of SC.
