A great Tiger passes today

Apr 14, 2011, 7:01 PM

This is my first post, although I have the boards daily for a number of years. I did not attend Clemson, as the school did not offer my major in the early 70's. But I was raised on Tiger milk! My dad, Bill Turner, Class of '48, MechEngr passed into eternity today. He was a great supporter of the University and a lover of all things Clemson. He enrolled at Clemson after serving in the US Army Air Corps and completed his engineering degree in three years. He got tired of working for other folks and started his own engineering practice in SW GA in the mid-fifties. He was a man of impeccable honor and integrity. He loved his tigers and watched (if unable to attend) as many athletic events as possible.Later in life he moved (was still practicing engineering in his late 70's) to Seneca from S. GA to be closer to his beloved Clemson. As his health deteriorated, he and mom relocated to Irmo to be near my sister for her support...he HATED the detested State and the biased reporting of the Cootlumbia media!! He will be buried wearing his Clemson pin, his Clemson ring, and in a fine suit sporting his Clemson tie. Please remember this Son of Clemson in your thoughts and prayers. God Bless T-Net.

It's people like your dad who made Clemson and the Clemson tradition something that we all love and are proud of. He's probably comparing notes with Coach Howard now. May he forever R.I.P.

Re: Bill Turner passes but not forgotten

Apr 14, 2011, 9:20 PM

Mr Turner we salute you for yor service to our country and your love of Dear Ol Clemson. We share that bond that binds us. Know that we hold our hand up as you pass or the mountains high to be with your maker. We will be left to morn and your son will face life with that hole that can not be filled by anyone but you. But he has the memories. Good memories from you of a time and a place our world has left behind. A better place with honor and dignity. Lord we pray Mr Turners soul was in heaven an hour before the devil knew he passed from this world.

To the Turner Family:

Our heart-felt condolences to you from the entire Wright Family. My Dad--Class of 1941--went to be with the Lord 12/14/2008 and there is not a day I miss remembering how much he was the Clemson Gentleman.
Cherish those memories. Smile when you know how much your Dad loved you all.

God bless each and every one of you.

Please re-consider the ring...

Apr 15, 2011, 1:17 PM

I have already lost both of my parents.

And, I am so sad to hear of your loss. Please, please, don't think I'm being insensitive. If you are doing what your Father wished, stop reading here.

***boy, this is hard to type***

I got all of my Dad's jewelry when he died (given to me by my Mother). Recently, my oldest son turned 16. For his B-day I gave him a jewelry box with some of my and my Dad's jewelry. He wears my Summerville '84 class ring every day. And, around his neck he wears the gold chain my Dad was wearing when he died (of cancer with my Mother and I by his side). If your Dad did not explicitly state that he wanted to be buried with his class ring on, you and your family should seriously consider keeping that ring as part of your family heirlooms that get handed down.

God bless you and yours in this time of loss.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very wise advice.

Apr 15, 2011, 3:08 PM

My uncle told me the same thing over my Mother's casket. At that moment, I didn't want to think about it - but he made me. Her rings are now treasured possessions.

The body is just an Earthly shell...
