In memory of Jim Phillips who passed 6 years ago today

Even though we lost a Clemson legend six years ago today, I'm sure Jim Phillips is STILL ROARING for the Tigers on the eve of a big game in Atlanta!!
Jim Phillips was the only voice of the Clemson Tigers for generations of fans. For 36 years, his matter-of-fact play by play brought Clemson athletics to life over the radio whenever the Clemson network was broadcast.

else call Clemson football or basketball games on the radio. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood are driving home to Atlanta from Clemson games, sitting in the backseat listening to Jim Phillips due the postgame show.
Its just not the same without him.

yrs. ago and talking country music. Jim did an imitation of Wayne Raney who used be on the WCKY Cincinnati radio station. Five old women at the next table stopped talking and listen to him. They said he sounded just like him. He did too.

Believe me I'm 66 years young & I get misty everytime I hear Jim's voice in some of his memory bits. He was & always will be the "Voice of Tiger sports". Rest in peace the voice of tiger sports. Hope I am good enough to meet him some day on those streets of gold. God bless you Jim.

Yesterday was a hard day for me. You see, Jim Phillips wasn't just the "Voice of the Tigers" to me, he was my dad. He is missed greatly, but especially this time of year, if you know what I mean. Seeing the video clips on the blog on the front page brought tears to my eyes again. Was in the booth for that Georgia game. Watched the Notre Dame game on closed circuit with his voice piped in at old WFBC TV in Greenville. And in my car working hanging on every word for the NC upset(Same day Dale Earnhardt died). Dad moved to South Carolina in 1968 when I was 3 years old. He had chances to move on, including a chance to do major league baseball in the early 70's, his lifelong dream. But he could not bring himself to leave Clemson. He loved the university, and more so, the people. Clemson made him an adopted son. Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts, and for keeping his memory alive. His family is greatly appreciative. NOW, BEAT GEORGIA TECH!!!!!
