Bowden Comment

Aug 18, 2007, 2:34 PM

I am not the one to jump all over Tommy and want a new coach, but I was reading the Greenville News on saturday and saw this comment...

?I don?t have the answer. Maybe somebody else does,? he said. ?I?m not that smart.?

But I mean give me a break. He makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for this job and he says "I'm not that smart." He really needs to watch what he says...I mean you can be humble, but you have to show some leadership as a college football coach...

any thoughts...

CONTEXT

Aug 18, 2007, 2:38 PM

The comment that you quoted him on is a reference to whether he KNOWS whether it's best for him to defer the kickoff until the second half.

With the new kickoff rules, nobody, like Tommy said, has the answer, yet. You have to wait until the season starts.

My thoughts? You saw something you wanted to see without considering the topic at hand.

"Raise your hand if you're envisioning Charlie Brown trying to kick that football and Lucy yanking it away right at the last minute.

That's South Carolina football in a nutshell."

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

Both valid points...

But, if you were a solider in battle and your leader didnt know what to do next and was vocal about it...how would that make you feel?

again, you are taking it out of context. Lawd...

and it's Soldier, not solider.

this is a game, not battle...but I understand what you mean

He's talking about a rule change and how that will affect whether to get momentum or risk losing it. It's not like the 2004 GT game when Lovett told Bowden he didn't have a defensive package to double-cover Calvin Johnson. That situation showed lack of leadership and ability.

Give me a break. I get sick of Clemson fans analyzing his comments to the press. After 8 years you would think people would begin to recognize he doesn't like to give anything away to the press. I guarantee you he knows exactly what he is going to do. Let's say he doesn't, does it really matter if he kicks or receives? The second half evens out the equation.

After 8 years you'd think he would've won a championship too***

what it means is - the new kickoff rule - he will see if

Aug 18, 2007, 2:44 PM

there are TONS of kickoffs for TD's from lots of other teams.

if so you don't want to give momentum away on the first kickoff.

Then you are in a Hole from the start and THEY are jacked up

Come on you have not seen his odd humor before.***

Danny used to say it all the time. "Coach Speak"!

Well, I'm just glad he didn't say...

My thought is Tommy is just being honest and that is a good trait. What did you want him to do blow smoke up your wazoo like some coaches do?
