The firing of Lee should be a wake up call for Brownlee.

It's put up or shut up for Brownlee this coming year. He better get his butt in gear.

I agree, Brownell should have been gone before Lee, and I will bet that has crossed Monte's mind since his release bc, it appears that Neff had the two of them mixed up, it was Brownell's office he actually should have been going to with the news that Clemson was going for a different direction, and he was no longer employed at Clemson!!!

I think he's gone after this year if he doesn't make the NCAA. I think the mind-numbing mediocrity is becoming too much for all but the most delusional, truly impaired fans, and even if the prez and BOT don't givashit about basketball (they are obviously 100% satisfied with perpetual mediocrity), even they will start to feel the heat soon. I get the feeling their charade has run it's course.

I think Brad probably needs to make the NCAA Tournament next year if he wants to keep his job.
I also think there is room for extenuating circumstances as well, such as a worldwide pandemic shortening the season, an uncharacteristic rash of injuries to key players, etc. If something like that happens I don't think missing the NCAA Tournament would cost him his job.
I also believe that this is a non-issue, because we will make the NCAA Tournament this year.

I'm expecting just the opposite from him, at least regular season wise. His MO has been 'marked improvement' from his team whenever he's faced make or break points. That's how he's managed to stick around for so long - his timing has been impeccable.
Nobody puts Bradley in a corner apparently. I just hope this time around we don't up the cost to part ways again and let it ride instead.
Go Tigers.

I hope that if by what ever the reason he has a good season, that Neff doesn't give Brownell a new 6 year contract, and back to the Brad of the past the rest of his contract!!!

I would say he will have an improved season. I won't say it will be his best season yet. That will all depend on what type of team he can put together and whoever else he can scrounge around from the portal and keep on campus.
Can he put together a team to get to the dance? Maybe. I expect him to do just enough to be "eh maybe".
Apathy with the fan base will ultimately be his downfall. But I don't know if Tiger Nation can be anymore apathetic about the program.

There really isn't as much apathy as you might think.

It's not like the Tommy West years in football, when we went from a rabid fan base with 82,000 fans in the stadium down to 60,000 fans for some games.
Sure, you can point to a slight decline in attendance under Brad, but it hasn't been significant. We have never been a rabid fan base when it comes to basketball, at least not consistently.

The numbers belie your lack of apathy stance.
Jun 1, 2022, 4:30 PM
|
|
From 9,465 average under Purnell's last season to 6,361 this past year? A third of overall attendance isn't significant? And a consistent pattern at that over his 12 years? West didn't even fare that bad from a % standpoint drop-off even for select games, during by far our single worst season in 50 years in football. And, let me get this straight, a third worse isn't significant when it comes to losing home game fan support, but a 10% better win % than our program's overall history somehow is significant when it comes to on court success for the Brad? And not near that high, if higher at all, in the last 40 years? That is rich.
Bradley Brown L Basketball is the epitome of apathy building, and recently, calcifying, around a program. Not owning up to that, and spinning over to dis on football fans again, is what it is.
Go Tigers.

We'll see about next year. Hopefully, Hall gets healthy and that makes a big difference. However, with what we lost and what we added I don't see how we're really better next year. We sure lost a lot of experience. Some of the freshmen are going to need to be better from the start than our normal freshmen usually are coming in.

Well that's not good for Judge. One of his key supporting bullets for CBB is that he typically finishes ahead of media projections. Why that matters is beyond anyone's logical explanation. But if we are projected 7th, it'll be tougher for Judge to check that box off his goal list next season.

One of the primary reasons we overperform pre-season league projections like we do is that our program has no buzz or energy behind it most seasons and the sportswriters that make up these forecasts don't put much time and effort into us. We aren't exactly click bait in basketball. Having a legit All-ACC potential in Hall will help turn some more heads our way this time around so I suspect we'll garner a little higher rating than normal.

Predicted 7th? lol. I have seen pre season power ratings around 12 or 13th. The thing is if they had kept Llewelyn from Princeton they would have probably been predicted 7th or 6th. One very good lead guard away, but doesn't look they are getting that guy in the portal now. If they end up getting Kerwin Walton a 6-5 wing from UNC who are in the top 5 for they probably could climb to 11th in the preseason standings.

Exactly. This is a case of “projecting” on an employee. You can’t turn an average employee into a great employee by giving them a raise and job security. All it means that you’re gonna have an average employee longer

It’s just that Clemsons leverage in basketball coaching circles is much weaker than in baseball.

as the leader of our program. I also believe he has a chance to capitalize on some good recruiting and transfers. I’m worried it won’t be enough to meet or exceed expectations this fall and I don’t think they will cut him any slack. I’m cautiously optimistic as one that has supported Brad in the past. I do believe this is his final chance to break through to sustain his job for another season.

used to say, "It's put up or shut up so get your butt in gear." If BB was fired yesterday, this post would have told Lee to get his butt in gear. Either way, I did expect a change with either basketball or baseball based on the past few seasons.
I like Lee and Brownell and would love to see or have saw both do well here at Clemson. They do well, their programs do well. Makes Clemson sports look better.

Why would the firing of Lee have anything to do with Brad? Completely different situations.
Why would Neff promise more support for the program only to fire a coach before the support had a chance to help?
Some of y’all need to look up apathy. The fact that we are discussing basketball in June says there is no apathy.

Transitively. MyfavO is correct, seeing another struggling program hit the bricks for a new coach is relevant to other leaders of Clemson’s athletics. Even if they deny it, human nature is to reason based on what’s going on around you.

There is apathy, during games. There's no apathy when it comes to the more exciting topic, which is replacing the coach.
You don't recognize that problem?

I absolutely recognize the problem. You should see it better than me…

I totally disagree. First you can talk any sport any time.

To my knowledge, there is no law saying you can only discuss basketball during the season. Second, these are similar situations since both are coaches who have fan bases and consider the programs have underachieved.
As far as not showing any apathy, I keep up with every sport Clemson has, from football to softball, gymnastics, rowing, etc. My interest is there.

Dan was just biding time and Brownell got a free pass, then Neff’s first year bought him one more. He won’t get a free pass this year. I hope he makes it past the first round cause I fear a first round loss would be the end of the Brownell era even with an improved season.
