Moment of clarity: The reason Clemson is better than USC
Apr 6, 2006, 4:10 PM
|
|
We've heard em all: tater, farmer, goat and cow references... all to help feed their inferiority complex. Even the most delusional USC fan in his heart of hearts knows Clemson holds the edge in every head to head category that matters.
While walking around our beautiful campus today it occured to me that behind this stupid stereotype is actually the reason why Clemson is so much better than Carolina. There is a reason why everyone at Clemson is having or has had the time of their life... its the small town atmosphere that we all enjoy.
Its about (1) seeing familiar faces, (2) knowing the City of Clemson IS Clemson University, (3) authentic tradition built on winning with names like Heisman, Howard, and Ford, (4) cheering on players like McFadden, the Perrys, the Bostics, Bulter, Cone, Allen, Fuller, Simmons, Adams, and too many more to name (5)THE MOST EXCITING 25 SECONDS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL... its pride and tradition you cant find in Columbia.
There is a sense of pride at Clemson everyone who has ever been apart of it feels. You instantly fall in love with the campus and the small town atmosphere... it truly does become a part of you. Its why tailgating is truly an experience to look foward to in anticipation of a tiger victory and not a glorified block party. Also... isnt it ironic that a well fed, clothed person is making fun of agriculture? Simply put... its why we're better.
Next time someone called you farmer... be proud and know why.

"Star Spangled Banner" is corny, but it is tradition.
Many feel that manners are not important anymore, but they are tradition.
Clemson is more old school ("2001" as opening music for your entrance? Please.) than USC, and the '##### are a little guilty about it.

from? You guys have a whopping 38 point higher average SAT, probably a third to a half of the number of students, and are about $1500 more expensive. Where in the world did you get the idea that 38 points puts you among the intelligentsia in the country?
Lord, gimme a break.

HS students in South Carolina are choosing Clemson over South Carolina. No one is suggest that $CU doesn't offer a student the opportunity to obtain a good education, but Clemson is better...PERIOD. The Princeton Reviewm, US News, and every other national publication who tracks such things always ranks Clemson significantly higher than South Carolina. Harley had a great post on this very issue a few weeks ago including ALL of the statistics to support this position. You should ask him to repost it.

higher, it was that "most USC students wouldn't be accepted"...and that is incredibly arrogant given the pretty comparable statistics between the two schools. So I reiterate...Gimme a break...and add...get over yourselves already.

the gap is then.
My mom works at the HS I went to and she said 50-100 kids out of a 400 kid graduating class apply to clemson each year and only 5-10 get in. 10 is very high an usually doenst happen. many of the kids that do not get in end up at usc or college of charleston.

Clemson isn't for everyone. Some people may not like the small town atmosphere or may want to major in something Clemson doens't offer. Maybe someone is misguided enough to actually WANT to go to SC and doesn't see the error of his or her ways. I used to work with someone who was a cheerleader for SC during the 63-17 debacle and before it was over, she was pulling for Clemson. She subsequently got smart and transferred.

you claim you don't flame on this board. You claim to mostly give complimentst to Clemson. So why the hell did you have to bash a perfectly good post with your attitude? This is a Clemson board and we are proud of the University. So go back to being "the nice coot" as you so often try to make yourself.....pffft
