Personally, I take no joy in the situation....

Jan 12, 2012, 1:06 PM

Relief, perhaps, but no joy.

Anyone who's had to let someone go for failing to meet job expectations knows it had to be done. But it still leaves a hollow feeling.

Thanks for all you've done for Clemson, Coach Steele. Best of luck in the future.

Better days ahead for all of us.

Perhaps, but

Jan 12, 2012, 1:09 PM

Coach Steele knows that very few jobs come with a pernamancy, especially in D1.coaching.
His wallet is fat, he has tons of experience and surely he had to know a change was coming after the OB.
Right or wrong, someboday had to be 'sacrified' so to speak.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree completely. At this level, change had to come.

Just an appeal to minimize the number of "Ding-dong, the witch is dead!" sort of posts.

And speaking of style, was there ever a greater "Good Witch" than Glenda aka Billie Burke???

of course there's no joy right now....

Jan 12, 2012, 1:12 PM

just last week we had 70 hung on us and we all would have rather seen success and it not to come to this.

The joy will return next season

Jan 12, 2012, 1:22 PM

when we celebrate the wins that were squandered in 2011. This will be a quickly fading memory at that point.

For sure: No one thinks removing Napier was a bad move...

Jan 12, 2012, 3:10 PM

...and there's no expectation that we'd be ACC champs, had be remained as OC.

Re: Personally, I take no joy in the situation....

Jan 12, 2012, 1:31 PM

I feel like it was probably time for KS to go, but I do hate seeing anyone lose their job, especially when they bring the intensity he did to work everyday. I feel like he would be more suited to be a DC in the NFL, where there aren't many teams who run a spread type offense (at least to my knowledge, I don't really watch the NFL).

Anyways, good luck to Kevin Steele in the future. Hopefully he will land somewhere good.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Point on...it's not that he was necessarily a bad coach, but

Jan 12, 2012, 1:38 PM

rather that his methods didn't work at Clemson, and that can be true in many endeavors. And I'm certain no one wishes him ill regardless of his destination.

Very eloquent, Rev, as always. Thanks for expressing...

....a statement that is both true and meaningful.

Quite classy, as ever, too.

Jan 12, 2012, 3:00 PM

This is not a pleasant time for any of us. I echo Rev's sentiments 110%.

Hard thing to do. Time to get on with supporting Clemson 110%.

Go Tigers!!!!

Rev. I agree. As someone who lived through the demise of the American Textile Industry (downsized 6 times since 1988). I know what you mean. Still something had to be done and a change was necessary. Coach Steele did what he thought was best. I wish him well in the future, just hope his future job does not come back to bite us. If I lived close to Fayetteville, I would be a member of your church for sure.

As much as I wanted a change, it still hurts to think of anyone out of a job. Best of luck to Coach Steele.

I am happy that it was recognized...

Jan 12, 2012, 5:48 PM

that this had to happen. Am I joyful about the entire situation? No. We all wish everything had turned out differently on the field; and, ultimately this would not have been necessary. Relieved, as you put it, sums it up nicely.

I agree totally that is not the way any of us wanted it to end. However, you just can't give up 70 points in three quarters of a football game - and big numbers to teams like Maryland and NC State and not expect changes to be made.
