there is no such thing as an "undergraduate business school"

I'm as big a proponent of Clemson as anybody, but when people talk about a "business school" they don't mean the undergrad. business program. On the other hand, prospective USC students (and just about anybody going somewhere because of the rank of the graduate schools) need to realize what you're saying- that you're going to the undergrad program, not the grad program.

Only SCAR's grad program for "International Business" has

been highly ranked, but it is a small specialized program not offered in many places around the country.
Most SCAR folks have ignored that fact and lumped all of their business programs with that perception.

and guess how many students get into that #1 I.B. program?
Apr 1, 2011, 7:58 PM
|
|
a whopping 50 per year. That means 150-200 max out of your 25,000 students (incoming Freshmen are not eligible, see below). How about that. Congrats to the few who can actually make it there, I'm sure their careers are set nicely.
from your own website: Competitive Admission: Admission to the international business major is highly competitive, and enrollment is limited to 50 students per year. Enrollment in the Chinese Business Track is limited to 20 additional students per year.
http://www.sc.edu/bulletin/ugrad/BAHome.html
The rest have to flounder around in your average business school, as the public is misled into a belief that USC has some sort of top tier overall business school.
Even your ads are misleading.....a Freshman cannot even enroll in the I.B program: http://vimeo.com/6371729
"Students admitted to the international business major at the Moore School must fulfill the following requirements: -15 credit hours of international business core courses -A second business major (for example, in accounting, economics, finance, management, management science, or marketing) -Proficiency in a second language -Study overseas"
Amazing. An ad aimed at about 0.05% of your student body.....yet you make it look so easy. Nice snowjob.

yeah... me too.
===============
The State May 21, 2010 Walter F. Pratt Jr. will step down as dean of the University of South Carolina’s School of Law next year, adding a search for his replacement to a list of challenges for a school that has plummeted in national rankings and struggled to raise money for new facilities.
...But a decade after the university first discussed plans for a new home for the law school, it still does not have one. Meanwhile, tuition has skyrocketed and the school’s position in national rankings has sunk.
U.S. News & World Report dropped USC’s law school from No. 87 last year to a “third tier” position this year below No. 100. The law schools of the University of North Carolina and the University of Georgia finished in a tie for No. 28. Both schools are significantly less expensive than USC’s law school...

"to the University of Second Choice to get a real degree like a J.D. or a M.D."
I feel bad for anyone who has to go to USC for a JD or an MD, with the sorry state of both of those programs. USC's med school takes less than 100 students a year, with more than 50% of them out of state kids that didn't have the grades or MCAT to get into a better school. Why is USC's SOM taking less and less in state students? It's because they're broke and get almost $50,000/year from out of state tuition, which is among the most expensive in the country. USC takes less qualified students and charges them insane amounts for a medical degree that will have them struggling to compete for any residency other than primary care.
So in short, don't feel bad for me or the other Clemson grads in my class, we graduated from Clemson and got into the one real medical school in our state, the Medical University of South Carolina.

your link is for GRAD SCHOOLS.
Clemson is just starting their MBA program in downtown Greenville, which is going to jumpstart their graduate program. Look for them to pass USC in coming years MBA-wise.
To their credit, USC successfully blurs the line, leading most students to think that the undergrad program is the same as graduate program. Looks like you have swallowed the bait yourself.

in the 50's in any of those ads for the University, it is always the IB #1.
Clemson has several schools of engineering in the top 20 in the country, the Civil Engr program was ranked 15th last year, I haven't seen this years. Architecture has also always been one of the country's best.

undegrad business is usually ranked in the top 50, I certainly won't argue with you over engineering and architecture, Clemson has great programs there (my brother graduated from Clemson with an architecture degree), but saying Clemson's business school is better than USC's is ridiculous

your opinion over Bloomberg - which is an entity that specializes in business. It's not some Clemson grad saying Clemson's business school is better than USC's, it is a highly regarded business specialist firm.
"CLEMSON — The undergraduate business program at Clemson University is ranked 29th among public colleges in the country, according to Bloomberg Businessweek magazine’s 2011 ranking of “The Best Undergraduate Business Schools.” Clemson’s undergraduate business program is the highest-ranked program of its kind in South Carolina."

couldn't get the current undegrad rankings for business, they charge for it, but here for 2008 USC was 41 and clemson was 71. I'm sure there are some random rankings that have clemson ahead of usc, but US news is the main ranking everyone goes by

It especially sucks during this time when we are getting our ##### handed to us on the playing fields.

for Clemson taking over Engineering... like the state of Georgia does it.
Instead, we have S Carolina floundering all over the place as a engineering school wannabee. Think of all the money they've thrown at trying to be a hydrogen, nanotechnology, , research institute. And now, Ms. Darla Moore is throwing money at an Aviation program they're going to start.
What a joke
