A decade ago today, we were preparing to face Ohio State in the Orange Bowl. At the time, we were all happy to see Clemson playing in a major (BCS) bowl game. Good things were happening for the Clemson program.
The Gamechickens, however, had extended their five-game winning streak against Clemson. It was (and still is) their only winning streak against Clemson since 1970. During their one winning streak in the last fifty years, I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard one of the following comments from Chicken fans: - "An ACC team like Clemson cannot win consistently against an SEC team like South Carolina." - "South Carolina has FOREVER left Clemson in the rear-view mirror." - "Dabo is a “Cheerleader Coach. We would never hire a coach like that." (And my personal favorite): - "I wish Clemson would keep Dabo forever!"
Fast forward ten years and we never seem to hear ANY of those comments anymore. Like history repeating itself, the comment we now hear most is an oldie but a goodie: - "Just wait till next year!!"

This reminded me I read on FGF after our win in Columbia (I only went there to delight in chicken tears) one coot lamenting if only Dabo hadn’t won the first game vs coots as acting head coach. There tune sure has changed.

So true! They have definitely changed their tune!!
I remember an article on one of the Gamechicken websites right after Clemson had extended Dabo's contract - either in 2012 or 2013. The article went on and on about how Clemson could no longer compete with South Carolina. The Clemson AD had only extended Dabo's contract because he knew that the Tigers could not find any else who would be any better. In other words, he knew that no one could bring Clemson back to competing with South Carolina anymore; therefore, extending Dabo's contract made sense as the best Clemson could do.
I wish I could remember where I saw that article. It definitely aged poorly!

I remember that one too. Said something like, "Two ships passing in the night...

"...and Clemson could no longer compete with South Carolina because of the SEC money,etc.etc.

If we didn’t enjoy beating them in their home field so much I’d say as bad as they suck year after year they’d be better off to just fill Willy B with concrete and forget football

I'm happy that Dabo at least got to bookend his series with Spurrier. Won the first, and the last.
From there the rest is literally history in the historical and etched in granite aspect of the term.
Nice post.
Go Tigers.

Interesting - I tried to find the temperature for the Orange Bowl that night for comparison. I couldn't find it, but I did find that the coldest Orange Bowl ever was only 49 degrees.
49 degrees doesn't sound so bad:

We had a supper 3 day stay downtown Miami next to the Bay and easily drove out to stadium to eatch two equally good teams.
Difference maker was Sammy Watkins and his suction-like hands and get up & go for 2-3 TD’s.
Buckeyes were sad again.

Extended their 5 game winning streak, the coots have never won more than 5 straight games against Clemson in FB, Never, and they won't win more than 5 straight against Clemson in my life time even if I live to be 100. But,
Clemson has won 6 of 7 with a Tie, Clemson has won 7 straight twice in our history. As for winning streaks, Clemson has more 4 plus game winning streaks over the coots in FB than they could ever come close to getting even with throughout the life of their FB program!!!
