picture of me and my roommate posing with Ric Flair our freshman year at Clemson. We bumped into him at the Western Sizzler, had a few good laughs, and he ended up buying our supper that night. This photo was taken right next to the salad bar. Time flies.

I would think that a fine dining establishment like Western Sizzlin' has a pretty strict dress code.

Minnesota wrecking crew. I loved the Sizzler when I was at Clemson. A real treat ??. When we dropped my daughter off at Clemson her freshman year it was still open and we ate there before we came home. I just had to do it for old times sake.

"The Second Generation". At least from what I remember as

a kid. Originals were Gene and Lars Anderson. Then it was Gene and Ole. Then Ole and Arn. About that time, the young Ric Flair got involved, along with those who eventually became the "Four Horsemen". Ah, the good old "Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling" was the early days before the big money got involved.
Back then, and I mean WAY back then, the standard "Good Guys vs Bad Guys" was George Becker and Johnny Weaver against either The (First) Anderson Brothers, or some team like "The Masked Infernos".
NONE of those guys could hold a candle to the physical prowess of the modern "rasslers". They pretty much all looked like flabby beer guzzling white guys, for the most part. I do remember Rufus "R" Jones and Tony Atlas as black stars.
Man, that was a lifetime ago. I know it was, because I was working a summer job in a gas station in high school when Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine, and Blackjack Mulligan came tooling in for gas one time in a regular old beater automobile. Flair had just come on the scene, I think he was no more than 17 at the time. A long time before the bright lights, big money, and the WOOOOOO!

Omg 76er I remember going to the Greenville Memorial Auditorium on Monday nights to see Mid-Atlantic wrestling. My friend’s older brother took us. I was probably 10 or 11at the time. I always liked the good guys and couldn’t stand Ric Flair. You pretty much knew who was going to lose the matches. Johnny Weaver comes to mind as someone who “lost” a lot.

tights", or "use hidden brass knuckles", or "interfere from the outside while the referee's back was turned" (still a favorite tactic today).
All Johnny Weaver had going for him was the "Sleeper Hold". In the modern faced paced WWE style "rasslin", that is only a minor "move".
I forgot one of the other more famous ones from back then, Big Chief Wahoo McDaniels, or as Rufus R. Jones called him, "YooHoo McDaniels".

they EVER won. Kind of like the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters.
I know they all got paid, but it sure would be depressing to me to go out night after night, knowing in advance that you were going to lose, AGAIN.
ps, Johnny Weaver didn't lose so often once he teamed up with "Pretty" Paul Jones.

Ahhhh... But do you remember Argentina Apollo? He wrestled barefoot and would walk around the ring on his hands while kicking the other guy in the face. Probably around mid-late 60's.
