LBB lights pics, so here’s some oldies relating to Clemson.

This is the way the football stadium looked to me in 1958 for my 1st game attended while in high school and of course the same look in my 1st year (1959) as a lowly Clemson “RAT” Student.
The 3rd pic shows the woods up in the Cemetary Hill property behind the low wall stadium where ole Coach Frank Howard would be buried 45 years later in late 1996, and where founder of IPTAY (a Cancer Specialist in Atlanta) Dr Rupert Fike is buried too with his headstone having IPTAY #1 engraved on it.
If you haven’t taken a stroll into this historical graveyard, give it a go when in town or b/4 a game since it’s less than a football field length from the stadium on the east side corner that’s on the 2-lane paved road leading from the stadium and up the hill. Cemetery entry is to your right at top of hill.
Oh, on that last pic what is it that the student body is making with placards? A Tiger face with big long ears? LOL

Thanks Bill. My Dad played for the Tigers in '47, '48, and '49. Freshman in '46. I imagine this is what Death Valley looked like when he was playing. Appreciate you posting! Go Tigers!

My Dad was on the Gator Bowl too! I remember watching that game as a young boy and have wondered if it is still available today(48 Gator Bowl)? If anyone knows I would be interested in finding out about it! Thanks

3rd pick looks like a "gremlin." Thanks for the photos. I love seeing old pictures of Clemson. It lets us know how far we have come.

Yep. That's how the stadium looked to me when I attended games in 59-60 while in HS and then when I attended my first game as a Clemson Rat in 61. The students were still wearing military uniforms in that 1950 photo.
Had a friend who chased and caught chip monk's on Cemetery Hill. He was short but could move like lighting to get those chip monks. No one else could catch them. He released them. Just did it for a challenge and to make the rest of us look like idiots chasing our tails.
Tons of good memories of those student years. Never missed a football game or basketball game as a student. A small group of us got to the Field House early every game and took our seats directly behind the Clemson bench. We knew all the players and they knew us. Both FB and BB players lived in the dorms with the rest of the students and ate in the same dining room. They were a part of the student body and were not treated like kings. Had to pick up student FB tickets on the Logia based on your class. Seniors First day, Juniors, second day, Sophs. third day and Freshmen and all who missed on their assigned day on the last day.

The 3rd pic must be when we let Albarn be the War Eagles since we wouldn't give them the lake!

1. Find Fike’s grave site quicker by knowing he’s located at the mid point, on the exact opposite back side from the entry of the circular road that goes around the graveyard.
2. Not sure about tombstones of beaten football foes but believe site is somewhere close to the practice field area.
Oh HowardsBoy...good luck & wishing you & Daughter a super Clemson day together!!

I know that is a long time to picture something in your head without anything to help to bring those memories front and center, but in your pics of memorial stadium, my memory is telling me that it looked about that same way when I went to my first ever FB game on November 24th, 1962, the very day I became a Clemson FB fan, I was 3 days from turning 10 years old on Nov 27th!!!

Thanks, Bill. I grew up in Clemson and went to all the home games from 1955 through 1966. It sure brings back good memories of the cadets and the Pershing Rifles Drill team as they performed at halftime. I believe the upper portal seats were added before I was there as a student in 1963. Other than that, the stadium looked very much as the pictures. I remember sitting on the green grass (east endzone) and having a good time during the ballgames while I was in high school. As a freshman, we dressed in coat and tie with our Rat Hats when we attended the football games. Also, I remember attending Saturday classes in the morning prior to the games and hearing the commotion on the campus as we were in class. GO TIGERS!!
