Pres Elect Obama, please don't let my brothers' lives

Nov 4, 2008, 11:20 PM

go in vain. Please don't let our mission go unfinished. We are beyond the peak of our battle and the future for what we have done is promising. Please be patient in our struggle for mission accomplishment -- for we could not tear down the country of Nazi Germany OR Japan in such short time. Morale is high; we want to reach our goals and rid this world of unacceptable punishment to the innocent. We are not police, be we do serve our country by serving others. This country is built on those who fled where they were not welcome -- in moderation. We deserve to continue being the melting pot of the World, but we do not need to become the over-accepting, germ-filled pool that will remove any advantage we have over where our ancestors initially came from.

God, please bless America. Bless those who lead this nation, those who serve this nation, and those who legally inhabit it.

A vicious circle

Nov 5, 2008, 1:58 AM

The idea that we should not let soldiers die in vain, leads to more soldiers dying in vain. We would STILL be in Vietnam if at some point the conflict wasn't simply ended.

The "failed policy in Nam" is part of what a war is. We failed totally on the KNOW YOUR ENEMY front.

Your brother's lives will not go in vain no matter what. America appreciates what they have done.

However, why risk more lives for a cause that is irrelevant to America?

Some of the high ranking officials in the military I know would like nothing more for this war to end tomorrow, no matter the outcome.

Actually, WW2 only took 6-years...

Nov 5, 2008, 9:07 AM

...and we took care of BOTH Germany and Japan in that time period.

I appreciate you serving our country with honor, however it's tough to support a continuing bad decision by the outgoing commander-in-chief. If you feel that any soldiers, brothers, fathers or sons died in vain in Iraq because of our troop withdrawal, perhaps you should realize what bad decisions Bush made to put their lives in peril.

I hope Obama continues the fight against terrorism to destroy that evil from our world. However, it's time for the boys in Iraq to come home.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Actually, WW2 only took 6-years...

Nov 5, 2008, 3:40 PM

WWII, at least for the US, lasted roughly 3.5 years against Germany and 3.75 against Japan (Dec. 1941 to May 1945, Aug. 1945). However, the US occupation of Japan after the war lasted from 1945 to 1952. The occupation of Germany lasted from 1945 to 1949 and in all fairness, we propped up that country against the USSR for much longer than that. It wasn't technically an occupation after 1949, but we still have troops in Germany as well as a defense commitment.

Overall, I would discourage the comparison of Iraq to postwar Germany or Japan. I will say that both of those two countries were in much worse shape in terms of devastation. The problem is that all countries are not equal. Germany and Japan had been organized for a decent period of time under a western style form of government (centralized government with rigid organization). Both were actually democracies, although those governments had been bastardized prior to WWII. Both countries had a fairly well realized national identity/culture (stronger in Japan than in Germany). Iraq was recently formed as a nation and it has three major ethnic groups within it that have always had trouble coming to a compromise in terms of government. For most of Iraq's history as a nation it was ruled by dictators.

Now, none of this proves that you can't help those people over there get on with their lives and form a decent government, it's just that Germany and Japan don't help your argument either.

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

The blame for the financial crisis should be on Clinton and the Democrats who were elected two years ago. Clinton started the mortgage problems by forcing financial institutions to make home loans to people who did not have the income to repay the loans. You think taxes will be reduced by this new clown, you are mistaken, every one will pay out the butt to pay for these programs he is proposing and you will also see double digit unemployment.
