to the coots scrimmage today. Hey... I'm jones'n for football, so I'll take what I can get, right!?

Anyway... I try to instill in my son some sportsmanship, and tell him that we are on "their turf", so let's be somewhat respectful. It's really hard when the coot fans are really a joke, in general. Some of the comments and the stardust dreams imprinted on their t-shirts... not to mention those stupid hats, really make it hard being a Father. How do I explain the coots to my son, who just doesn't understand the Kool-Aid mentality? Spurrier is making fun of the coot faithful, right? There is no other explanation for those stupid hats.

We watch as the unenthusiastic gamecoots go through the scrimmage, uh... after a streaker wearing nothing but a gamecoot helmet runs down the east sideline and disappears into the tunnel. That's right, he was the fastest person on the field today. I'm sure Spurrier is looking to recruit him at this very moment. The coots, at times, looked like a high school team. They were truly average at best. They ended with 4 field goal attempts by 4 different kickers. The ball was spotted at the 22... the first two kicks went wide right, the third went wide left and finally the fourth made it through. The gamecoot nation roared loudly. I yelled,” Finally", as the team exited the field.

We head out to the parking lot and I can't help thinking, what a long season it is going to be for them. As we get into the parking lot directly outside WB, we see my new boss and one of my co-workers tailgating. My son starts to make fun of them being gamecoots. I ask him to be respectful, as we are standing on their turf. My son says, "What here?", and proceeds to spit a tremendous hawker right in front of them. I proceed to die of embarrassment and wonder if I will have a job Monday morning. Where this came from I do not know. My son is usually the best mannered and well-behaved kid. He apologized profusely and as we left, my son stated that he was only joking. I told him not to worry about it, “Just look at those hats, Spurrier was just joking too!”
