Hot Rod on 4th and 16

Jan 15, 2013, 12:39 PM

Man I just checked out the 4th and 16 play again. Hot Rod throws a great block to make it happen...McDowell may just be the most underrated player on the team...He gives 110% on every play it seems...

I noticed that too!! Threw a block on a guy who probably has

Jan 15, 2013, 12:40 PM

50 lbs on him and bought Tajh the time to make the throw. Without the block I think that pass would've been batted down.

he is a nice back who came on this year.

the biggest thing I worry about from him is when he hits the pile he generally stops. AE is about the same size but seemed to usually be able to move the pile a little

Really?

Jan 15, 2013, 2:16 PM

There was many times this year i saw hot rod move the pile, even in the LSU game he hit the hole with power. Ed Ihateclemson cunningham even commented on it

He did a decent job moving the pile against LSU

That's the first time I noticed that though. Hopefully another year of S&C will get that shored up a bit.

Check out FR-Isaiah Battle at left tackle on that same play.

Jan 15, 2013, 12:56 PM

He just drives him into the ground.

really seems to be getting better w/ the rock in his hands

Jan 15, 2013, 12:58 PM

I think we'll be ok at RB next year with him, Brooks, and Howard doing most of the running.

Check out Adam Humphries breaking wide open on left side...

possibly goes for a TD.

The guy knows how to get open.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm glad he made the block

Jan 15, 2013, 1:43 PM

And to be clear it's way more than I could've done, but it wasn't really a great block. He just sort of three his body at the legs of the defender. It worked, so I'm gla he did it, but it wasn't a spectacular textbook block.

How should he have blocked on that play?***

Jan 15, 2013, 1:48 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It would've been cool if he'd have clotheslined the guy

Jan 15, 2013, 1:51 PM

and decaptiated him. like if the guys head actually came unattached from his body. Would've been wild.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hot Rod could do that...

Jan 15, 2013, 2:14 PM

if he was a foot taller and weighed another 100 lbs.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was in danger of being called for a chop block

Jan 15, 2013, 2:26 PM [ in reply to How should he have blocked on that play?*** ]

As the OL was close to still being engaged.

I'm glad it worked out, but staying on his feet and using the DL's momentum against him by driving him outside the pocket and beyond Tajh would've been more by the book.

That said it worked. Glad it did

HR also hit and LSU lineman #9 I think and drove him

Jan 15, 2013, 2:13 PM

backwards two yards. This kid can lay the wood.

I'll watch the game for the 22nd time tonight and provide the down and count on the clock. I know it was inside LSU's 30. I think it was our first deep drive in the fourth qtr resulting in a field goal.
