For example, last January, you only went 5-2, including a win over #3 Duke (one of few top 5 wins in program history) and over UNC in Chapel Hill (the first time that has ever happened). With performances like that, it’s no wonder I’ve seen so many posts here about your teams being so bad every January.

Maybe being more animated on the sidelines would help too. Just don’t be too animated by yelling instructions at your players. That makes them tense up and feel too much pressure.

Address these issues, and you might get the approval of a few more posters on TigerNet (and maybe even some media members too!).

saying there's a 50-50 chance of rain. You can't say, "this is the best team ever...maybe, maybe not".

In reality, it's kind of silly to even suggest that at this point. You can throw it out there and hope it sticks, but let's try to stay grounded in objectivity. Hope, especially in sports, can only carry you so far.

I dunno, you may be confusing the fact this is Brad's deepest team with a idea it's the best in Clemson history? But saying it might be the best in Brad's history is a debateable, let alone the best in Clemson history.

Heck, if I look at it objectively and not blind hope, then I dont have enough digits on my fingers and toes to count the number of Clemson basketball teams that certainly appeared better than this one.

Let's be honest here, after 11 years you can spot the same deficiencies. Right?

Just for one example, over 11 years we have seen consistently common scoring droughts in games. These periods of not being able to score are an oft-repeated issue. This one example can be directly correlated to numerous losses. This is a major reason we haven't advanced in the program, and it's only one example.

At some point you have to admit "it is what it is".. and come to terms with it.

11 years of data. That's a very significant sample size.

I hope we can make the tourney, first of all. How many times have we done that in 11 years? After 11 years and your deepest roster ever, you MUST show a potential to succeed.

NO EXCUSES.

Next is winning at least two in the tourney. Simply making it would not be a sign of sure progress.

Look, if we can show some substantial and reasonable progression this season, then it's all good to go forward. Here's to hoping for the best, but let's not go way overboard by entertaining a notion that this is the best team in history.

While this could 'possibly' be "the best ever", that's walking out on a very, very thin limb.

Gotta crawl before you can walk. We've had 11 years of crawling.

As is true with the weather, you don’t know for certain how a season will turn out

He's just good enough that we get to have this same discussion every year. A portion of the crowd think he's "about to turn the corner", while the rest say it's time see if someone else can get us over the hump of being very average. I guess it's somewhat interesting to see how many people are risk averse and prefer to stay average with faint hope of slight improvement, and how many people are willing to endure a roller coaster to see if there can be some great years mixed in.

Average is what CBB is.

How many years has he been the Clemson HC? How many ACC titles, regular season or tournament? How many of you really honestly think Clemson will win the ACC tournament in the next 2-3 years? If the answer is no, then the only reason to keep BB is because the Administration and many fans are satisfied with abject mediocrity. Yes, BB will win the occasional big game. But those wins are always, and I mean always, followed by head-scratching losses. Last season is a perfect example of this. BB has had sufficient time to prove himself. It's time for a change. Unless you are satisfied with the status quo.

Why are we accepting such mediocrity from Brownell anyway?

Given our robust basketball history at Clemson, including top 10 recruiting classes, many ACC championships, and loads of Elite Eight and Final Four appearances, we should expect more!

Plus, we have such a passionate fan base for basketball, it’s amazing that people have put up with Brownell’s awful teams so long.

Judge is right. You have no concept of how basketball is viewed at those places and you can throw UNC in there too. I actually went to a Duke vs Clemson game in the 80's in Death Valley where Duke was the home team. Duke decided to play it in Clemson because they could get more money than playing it in Wallace Wade. That sounds like a University that is concerned about its football program to me.

You are the perfect example of why people accept

abject mediocrity in the basketball program. Clemson has never been great in the past, why should we expect future greatness? I aspire to greater results. You don't. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Anyone who supports CBB is insane or delusional or both. Our feathered friends in Columbia think they have a proud football program. Privately, they know they don't. Yet they keep trying to improve with coaching changes, for better or worse. With Clemson basketball, we know we have average and aren't willing to change. It's very sad.

I don’t think we should accept mediocrity.

I believe we should be in the NCAA Tournament every year. We can absolutely be a top 25 program.

But your problem, and the problem a lot of people here have, is that they want to throw basketball the scraps when it comes to funding and support, yet still complain when results aren’t what they want.

It wasn’t until a few years ago that Brownell got good enough facilities and a staff budget to hire the assistants he needs. Amazingly, our recruiting is better. Our team is better. Funny how that works, isn’t it?

So now we can see what he does with a reasonable level of funding and support. So far, the results are encouraging.

If you are the type who whines about already waiting 11 years and Brownell being a bad coach, then you don’t really understand what it takes to be good at basketball (especially at a school that has the awful history we do in the sport).

In the late 70's and 80's Littlejohn was considered a tough place to play. Clemson basketball fans are fair weathered, but they solidly get behind the program when it is doing well. I think if we had not been weathering a pandemic that they would be supporting this team.

I like this team, despite the last 3 depressing games, but it is understandable for people to think that they have seen this movie before. I do believe that Coach Brownell has earned a little bit of leeway over the last couple of years, but I still think that he should have been fired 4 or 5 years ago. He has upped the recruiting, and if he can get them to their potential then I will happily say that I was wrong. However, he needs to get them back on track or I will start regretting my change of heart. There has to be some point that the reason's for not having success, are nothing more than excuses.

I don’t see any bright spots in his January performances, ever. Very few wins, and when we do win, it’s wins that feel like losses.

Beating #3 Duke last year wasn’t really that great, since Duke was ranked lower than that the next week. And beating UNC in Chapel Hill wasn’t that big of a deal. It was bound to happen sometime, based on random chance alone.

Brownell is doing just fine this season, and I don't understand other fans complaining. The last two games were blowouts due to the layoff from the team not being able to practice, and though the practice time might not affect other teams preparation it surely does for Clemson. I'm sure not having time to install a solid defensive plan has lead to the high 80's games we have seen the last two times out. If the defense can find its feet again, I feel confident that we will end the acc season somewhere in the top 4.
