No, it is not a PIA. But it doesn't hold as much as the whole half fridge door on the left.

And yes, I work with sound/wiring/theater something.

It's really no different than having the freezer on top or side . You have to change your management a bit, but with a drawer and divider in the middle, it's just like having shelves. There are two small compartments in the door that are good for thinner objects.
Now there are some people who struggle with bending over, but I haven't had that problem...yet. Would be the same as the produce drawers or bottom shelves in traditional fridges.

French doors - two doors on top for fridge, one with ice and water on left. Freezer on bottom.
This thing is huge, they had to take off all doors to get into house.
We like - no issues.

No more frozen food falling out onto my bare feet. I have ice maker on door and in freezer, when I might need extra ice I turn on bottom otherwise it stays off.

with ice/water on the left door, bottom freezer with another ice maker there. Like OSF, we keep it turned off mostly, but nice to have. Had it 3 years, like it pretty well. Digging in the freezer drawer is not as nice as a separate upright freezer like we used to have, but OK. Have the old side-by-side in the laundry room w/o the icemaker hooked up.
I think the ideal is one o these french door/bottom freezer with an extra old-style lower fridge/upper freezer. Or if they made them, a big french door fridge-only, no freezer except for ice/water in the door, with an extra upright freezer. Not a big fan of the side-by-side we had for years as our primary, and is now the extra fridge. Miss our upright freezer, which broked.

Ice in the door. I feel like i cam see in the freezer better now than I could in my side by side. Stuff would get lost in that thing for years. Also we have a deep freezer in the garage so space isnt really an issue, though the one on the fridge seems fine.

on the front of the door, which takes up door storage space on the inside, Whirlpool added a filtered water dispenser on the inside of the fridge, allowing you to have door storage and a water dispenser. Looks like this

what about ice? Just grab it from the freezer like our ancestors did?
and you gotta open the fridge (and freezer) every time you want some ice water? One hand to hold the cup, the other to press the button?
interesting idea...like the 'clean' look of the front of the fridge, but not sure about the usability in our case, as we drink a lot of f'n ice water

I don't mind opening the door to get the water due to the increased door storage. fair trade off to me, and honestly less parts that have the option of breaking.

I'm not a fan of ice in the door...

at my old house I had one that was freakin huge and it had an ice maker in the pullout drawer of the freezer. It made a ton of ice. Like have a party at the house and not run out of ice.
I got a new one in my new house and my wife insisted on a ice in the door model. Now my fridge is too small to hold much stuff and my ice maker makes about enough ice for 4 drinks a night. And I have 6 people in my house.
