My grandmother and grandpa got in a wreck this morning. Mawmaw didn't make it. Sitting in the ER now.
Pawpaw blames himself because we've been trying to take his keys for a couple of years now without success. He pulled in front of an incoming car and is doing well. I don't know what he's gonna do. They've been together almost 50 years.
Don't know what my mom is gonna do either. Her and Mawmaw were best friends.
She never missed a single ball game or graduation and would holler louder than most of the folks 30 years younger. She was opinionated, social and always did what was right.
I'm not a religious man, but if there is a God and heaven, I know she's talking Saint Peter's ears off at the pearly gates. I call them every night on Wednesdays at 8pm. That call isn't gonna happen tonight. And the next time it does, she won't be on the line to ask me the same questions and tell the same stories I've heard 100 times.
Rest in peace Mawmaw. This one really hurts.

7spots Thanks man. This one really hits home because between my brother's addiction, my mom's hospitalization (right before COVID hit) and this, it's like a never-ending series of shiddy events.

Be there for him. I wouldn't expect him to last too long without grandma around. Sorry to hear this. It's always heartbreaking. My parents were married 70 years. Once Pa was gone Ma didn't last long. It's just the way it is.

either, and he is past the time when he should stop. I am speaking only because I deal with that same issue, and don't understand it any better than anyone else.
Any death is, I think, the result of who we are and our imperfections, no one more or less to blame than anyone else. It will be natural for your granddad to blame himself, and I wish I could wave a wand and make him not feel that way. He will be glad to know that you love him. You already knew that, I know.

Lost my grandma in a car accident as well. It’s so hard as you never got that “last” goodbye.

in the past that you lost your dad. And now my mom has lost her mom.
I know it's such a tough thing to go through. I feel so sad for my mom because Mawmaw was her ROCK for her whole life.
